Why hire a campervan or motorhome in State of Berlin

State of Berlin — a region worth exploring

Berlin's 891 square kilometres make it Germany's largest city by area, yet over a third of that space is covered by parks, forests, and waterways — including the Havel and Spree rivers that wind through the entire region. From the iconic Brandenburg Gate and the East Side Gallery's 1.3-kilometre stretch of painted Berlin Wall to the sprawling Tiergarten and the palace grounds of Charlottenburg, Berlin offers a remarkable mix of history, culture, and green space. The drive from Alexanderplatz to the Wannsee lakeside beaches covers roughly 25 kilometres, while heading southeast from the city centre to the Müggelsee — Berlin's largest lake — is about 20 kilometres, opening up waterside spots ideal for overnight stays. The region's flat terrain and well-maintained roads make it wonderfully easy to navigate by campervan or motorhome, with broad avenues and clearly signposted routes connecting each neighbourhood. Whether you want to explore the museum collections on Museum Island, cycle along the Mauerweg trail, or simply park up beside one of Berlin's many lakes, there is always something within easy reach. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners across Berlin, giving you a wide choice of vehicles — from compact campervans for couples to larger motorhomes for families — at prices that suit every budget.

Best time to visit

May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip around Berlin, when long daylight hours and warm temperatures make lakeside camping a real pleasure. June brings the Fête de la Musique on the 21st, with free open-air concerts across the city, while the Berlin Festival of Lights in October transforms landmarks like the TV Tower and Brandenburg Gate with spectacular illuminations. Campsites around the Havel and Müggelsee fill up quickly in July and August, so booking early is worthwhile. Outside peak season, Yescapa's peer-to-peer model means you can often find competitively priced motorhome hire in spring and autumn, when Berlin's parks are quieter and equally rewarding to explore.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in State of Berlin

Germany's motorways (Autobahn) are toll-free for campervans and motorhomes under 7.5 tonnes, so you can travel freely around Berlin and beyond without extra charges. The A10 Berliner Ring circles the city and connects to the A100 inner-city motorway, both well suited to larger vehicles. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 80 km/h on regular roads and 100 km/h on the Autobahn, while lighter campervans follow standard car limits unless otherwise signed. Berlin also has a low-emission zone (Umweltzone) covering most of the city centre — you need a green emissions sticker to drive within it.

Thank you, Jesús María, for one of our best travel experiences! Great communication before our arrival and warm welcome in Málaga were the perfect start to the trip. The van was fully equipped, and we had an amazing time exploring beautiful Andalusia. It was hard to say goodbye to our little home on wheels, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to take it on another adventure someday! Highly recommended! 🚐⭐️

We had a great trip and a good overall experience with Marco’s campervan. Communication with the owner was very swiftly, both before and during the rental. Campervan also met our standards and was in line with description. We were on the road for 9 days. It was our first experience driving and being on the road with a campervan and we did not experience any issues at all. The van itself was in good condition, and Marco was very available for any questions. Would definitely recommend!

The hire from Franck was perfect for our holiday in the Alsace. It was modern and spacious and very practical. The hiring experience was very easy and Franck was a great host. He assisted us with all our questions and always responded promptly. We would not hesitate in recommending this motorhome for future trips.
