Why choose Orange NSW for your road trip

Orange NSW — a city worth exploring

Orange sits 254 km west of Sydney at an elevation of 862 metres, making it one of the highest cities in New South Wales and a gateway to the Central Tablelands wine region. The city is home to more than 60 cellar doors within a 30-minute drive, and the extinct volcano Mount Canobolas rises 1,395 metres just 20 km to the south-west, offering bushwalking trails through eucalypt forest and seasonal waterfalls. Stroll through Cook Park, a heritage-listed botanical garden first planted in 1878, or explore the Orange Regional Museum for exhibits on Wiradjuri culture and the gold rush era. The Orange Regional Gallery showcases touring exhibitions alongside a permanent collection of Australian art. Bathurst, the oldest inland settlement in Australia, is only 53 km to the east, while the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area begins roughly 160 km to the east, giving you plenty of scope for extended touring. The surrounding countryside is defined by rolling hills, wide roads and gentle gradients — ideal conditions for travelling by motorhome or campervan. Seasonal orchards, cool-climate vineyards and farm-gate stalls line the routes in every direction. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner, which means you benefit from personal tips on the best scenic drives, harvest-season timing and quieter camping spots that only residents know about.

Best time to visit

Autumn is a brilliant time to visit Orange, when the FOOD Week festival in April fills the city with farm-to-table events, wine tastings and orchard tours. Spring brings the Orange Colour City Running Festival in September and wildflower displays across Mount Canobolas. Summer suits campervan travellers who want long daylight hours for vineyard hopping, while winter delivers crisp mornings and cosy cellar-door visits. Book your Yescapa hire early for the April and October long weekends, when campsite demand peaks. Outside those windows, you can often find great peer-to-peer rates from local owners.

The hire experience was excellent throughout. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with. We had such a good trip. The van is really well looked after and a pleasure to drive. The owners helped with anything we were unsure of and even gave us tips on where to eat and park up. We would definitely hire through these owners again.

We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!

Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.

Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
