Northern Beaches stretches across 35 kilometres of coastline north of Sydney Harbour, from Manly to Palm Beach, making it one of Australia's most rewarding regions to explore on four wheels. The Barrenjoey Lighthouse at Palm Beach marks the northernmost tip, offering panoramic views across Broken Bay and Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. From Dee Why to Avalon, the coastal road connects over 20 distinct beaches, each with its own character and community feel. The drive from Manly Wharf to Palm Beach covers roughly 38 kilometres and takes you through laid-back suburbs, native bushland, and dramatic headlands. Narrabeen Lagoon, one of the largest coastal lagoons in Sydney, is a favourite spot for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, while the 10-kilometre Manly to Spit Bridge walk showcases harbour views and Aboriginal rock engravings. North Head Sanctuary, just minutes from Manly, is home to a colony of endangered long-nosed bandicoots and former military fortifications. The distance from Sydney CBD to Mona Vale is approximately 30 kilometres, giving you easy access to quieter northern stretches. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across the Sydney region, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style. Whether you are planning a weekend escape or a longer coastal adventure, a motorhome gives you the freedom to wake up by the water and explore at your own pace.
The Northern Beaches enjoy a temperate climate year-round, with summer (December to February) bringing warm days ideal for surfing and coastal walks. The Australian Open of Surfing, held at Manly Beach each March, draws crowds and creates a buzzing atmosphere worth timing your trip around. Autumn (March to May) offers comfortable temperatures and fewer visitors, making it a great window for campervan travel along the coast. Winter whale-watching season from June to November is a highlight at North Head lookout. With Yescapa, you can take advantage of peer-to-peer pricing during quieter months, often finding better rates on motorhome hire outside the peak summer holidays.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Follow the coastline from Manly to Palm Beach over 80 km, stopping at Curl Curl, Dee Why, and Narrabeen along the way. This route suits a compact campervan and offers beachside parking at several reserves. Allow time for the Barrenjoey Lighthouse walk at the northern end.
Combine the Northern Beaches with Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park on this 120 km loop. Drive from Mona Vale through West Head and down to Bobbin Head for bushwalks and waterside picnics. The route is well-suited to motorhomes, with spacious parking at several national park entry points.
Head north from Palm Beach across Broken Bay by vehicle ferry to Patonga, then continue to Gosford and Terrigal on the Central Coast. This 250 km route links the Northern Beaches to the Bouddi Coastal Walk and Australian Reptile Park. Ideal for a campervan trip with coastal and hinterland variety.
Start at Manly and drive 350 km north through the Central Coast to the Hunter Valley wine region. Visit Pokolbin cellar doors and Wollombi village before looping back via the Pacific Motorway. Several campgrounds along the route welcome motorhomes with powered sites and amenities.
This 500 km route takes you from the Northern Beaches to the sand dunes and dolphin-watching waters of Port Stephens. Stop at Lake Macquarie and Nelson Bay, with well-equipped caravan parks along the way. A campervan gives you the flexibility to linger at Stockton Bight's towering dunes.

The Northern Beaches and surrounding region offer a mix of beachside holiday parks, bushland campgrounds, and well-equipped caravan parks. Whether you are travelling in a campervan or a larger motorhome, you will find sites with powered pitches, dump points, and modern amenity blocks. From coastal reserves near Narrabeen to national park campgrounds on the fringes of Ku-ring-gai Chase, there is plenty of choice for every style of trip.
The Northern Beaches are served by the Wakehurst Parkway and Pittwater Road, the two main arterial routes running north–south through the region. There are no toll roads within the Northern Beaches themselves, though the Sydney motorway network connecting to the area includes tolled routes such as the Warringah Freeway and the Sydney Harbour Tunnel. Speed limits on local roads typically range from 50 to 60 km/h, with school zones dropping to 40 km/h. Larger motorhomes should be mindful of narrow sections along some beachside streets and height restrictions at certain car parks near Manly and Avalon.
Esperienza positiva
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
