Catalonia's coastline stretches over 580 kilometres from the French border to the Ebro Delta, making it one of the most varied driving regions in the western Mediterranean. Start in Barcelona, where Gaudí's Sagrada Família and Park Güell set the tone, then head north along the Costa Brava to the Salvador Dalí Theatre-Museum in Figueres — a journey of roughly 140 kilometres. Inland, the Montserrat massif rises to 1,236 metres and rewards you with panoramic views across the Llobregat valley, while the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park in the Pyrenees offers glacial lakes and alpine meadows ideal for slow-paced touring. From Tarragona's Roman amphitheatre to the medieval streets of Girona, the region packs centuries of history into manageable day-drives — Tarragona to Girona is about 190 kilometres via the AP-7. Catalonia's roads suit both compact campervans on narrow coastal lanes and larger motorhomes on well-maintained inland routes. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners spread across the region, so you can collect your campervan near your starting point and set off without delay. Whether you are tracing vineyard trails through the Penedès or winding along cliff-top roads above Tossa de Mar, Catalonia keeps the scenery changing at every turn.
May to mid-October is the prime window for a campervan trip through Catalonia. The Festa Major de Gràcia lights up Barcelona's streets every August with decorated lanes and live music, while the Festes de Santa Tecla in Tarragona each September features spectacular human tower displays. Spring and early autumn bring comfortable driving temperatures and quieter campsites across the Pyrenean foothills and Costa Brava. Peak season runs from July to August, when coastal areas are liveliest — booking your motorhome early on Yescapa gives you the widest choice and competitive peer-to-peer pricing. For a more relaxed pace, June and September offer warm seas and open roads.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
A 550 km loop linking Barcelona, Girona, Figueres and Tarragona over 7–11 days. You pass Montserrat, the volcanic zone of La Garrotxa and the Dalí museum. Motorhome-friendly service areas dot the AP-7 corridor throughout.
This 600 km route over 8–15 days climbs from the rice paddies of the Ebro Delta through Lleida's plains to the Aigüestortes National Park. Ideal for a campervan, with mountain campsites offering hook-ups and fresh-water refills along the way.
A 180 km drive over 3–6 days hugging the coast from Blanes to Portbou. Stop at Tossa de Mar's walled old town and the coves near Begur. Compact campervans handle the narrow seaside roads with ease.
A leisurely 150 km tour over 3–5 days through Catalonia's cava heartland. Visit Vilafranca del Penedès and Sant Sadurní d'Anoia, sampling local wineries en route. Quiet rural campsites welcome both campervans and motorhomes.
Covering 350 km over 5–8 days, this route crosses from the Val d'Aran to Puigcerdà along high passes and green valleys. The Boí Valley's Romanesque churches are a highlight. Well-surfaced roads suit motorhomes, though some cols require low-gear driving.
A 400 km circuit over 5–8 days exploring Vic, Ripoll and the medieval town of Besalú before looping through La Garrotxa's volcanic landscape. Campervan-friendly aires and campsites are spaced at regular intervals across this inland stretch of Catalonia.

Catalonia offers campsites ranging from beachfront pitches on the Costa Brava to mountain sites in the Pyrenees. Most provide full hook-ups, modern shower blocks and dedicated motorhome service points. Coastal parks tend to include pools and direct beach access, while inland sites sit among forests and rivers — perfect for a quieter campervan stay. Facilities across Catalonia generally run from Easter through to late October, with many larger sites open year-round.
Most of Catalonia's motorways are tolled, including the AP-7 along the coast and the AP-2 heading inland towards Lleida. You pay at barrier toll booths by card or cash, and an electronic Via-T tag speeds things up if you plan several journeys. Motorhomes over 3,500 kg are classed as heavy vehicles, with a motorway speed limit of 90 km/h rather than the standard 120 km/h for cars. The free C-roads (such as the C-31 and C-32 sections) offer good alternatives along the coast. Mountain passes in the Pyrenees are well surfaced but include tight bends, so allow extra time with larger vehicles.
Patricia and Jorge were great, waiting at the airport when we arived and waiting 30mins at the return when we took a wrong turn. Helpful and friendly. Signed off the return easily and quickly. The van has character and plenty of Km but it was in perfect running order. I'd have no problem hiring from them again.
Frederick was lovely and the van was super. A lot of storage for a van plus a screen that separates the toilet from the shower which is much less of a mess. Big fridge and good cooking area and sink. The water pressure is very good so when you shower you get a really good pressure, having said that prepare to top up your water tank frequently. Lovely trip and a really well equipped and user friendly van layout would rent again!
Amazing experience! Jeremie has been so kind and helpful. The van is ideal, everything you need is there. Everything was smooth and easy. We will do the same again soon!
