Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Gold Coast Airport

Gold Coast Airport — a region worth exploring

Gold Coast Airport (OOL) sits just 2 kilometres from the New South Wales–Queensland border at Coolangatta, making it a unique gateway to two Australian states from a single terminal. From here, the 57-kilometre stretch north to Surfers Paradise runs along one of Australia's most recognisable coastal strips, while heading south brings you to Byron Bay in roughly 50 minutes over 95 kilometres. The region surrounding the airport offers remarkable variety — east-facing beaches that catch the morning sun, the ancient Gondwana Rainforests of the hinterland, and the Gold Coast's famous theme parks including Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movie World, and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. The Tweed Valley to the south is home to the dramatic caldera rim of Mount Warning (Wollumbin), a landscape shaped by volcanic activity over 23 million years ago. Coastal roads are well-suited to campervans, and the Pacific Motorway (M1) provides a smooth, multi-lane corridor for larger motorhomes heading towards Brisbane or the Sunshine Coast. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based around the Gold Coast and northern New South Wales, giving you the flexibility to choose a vehicle that fits your plans — whether that is a compact van for beach-hopping or a fully equipped motorhome for a longer tour into the hinterland and beyond.

Best time to visit

The Gold Coast enjoys a subtropical climate, so hiring a campervan here works well year-round. September to November is ideal for comfortable temperatures and uncrowded campsites, coinciding with events like the Gold Coast Marathon in early July and Bleach* Festival each March. Peak season runs from December to February, when school holidays bring families to the coast — booking your Yescapa motorhome early for this period is a smart move. Autumn (March to May) offers warm days and quieter roads, perfect for exploring the hinterland at your own pace.

The hire experience was excellent throughout. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with. We had such a good trip. The van is really well looked after and a pleasure to drive. The owners helped with anything we were unsure of and even gave us tips on where to eat and park up. We would definitely hire through these owners again.

We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!

Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.

Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
