Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Gold Coast

Gold Coast — a region worth exploring

The Gold Coast stretches across 57 kilometres of coastline in south-east Queensland, making it one of Australia's longest unbroken stretches of surf beach and a natural playground for road-trippers. From the iconic Surfers Paradise skyline to the ancient subtropical rainforest of Springbrook National Park, the region packs an extraordinary range of landscapes into a compact area. The drive from Coolangatta at the southern border to the northern reaches of South Stradbroke Island covers roughly 70 kilometres, while a detour inland from Burleigh Heads to the Lamington National Park plateau is just 60 kilometres yet climbs through dramatically different terrain. You can cruise past the golden sand of Currumbin Beach, explore the wildlife sanctuary at Currumbin, then wind through the lush hinterland valleys around Mount Tamborine, where galleries, distilleries and walking trails reward a slower pace. The Gold Coast's well-maintained roads and plentiful campsite options make it ideal territory for both campervans and larger motorhomes. Whether you fancy whale watching off Point Danger or hiking to the Natural Bridge glow-worm cave, there is always something around the next bend. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across the Gold Coast, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style — a flexible, community-driven way to experience this stretch of Australia's eastern seaboard.

Best time to visit

The Gold Coast enjoys a subtropical climate with warm temperatures for most of the year, making it a fantastic destination in every season. April to May and September to October offer comfortable daytime warmth and quieter campsites, ideal for exploring at your own pace. The Gold Coast 600 motor race in late October draws big crowds, while the Blues on Broadbeach music festival each May fills the foreshore with free live performances. Summer, from December to February, is peak season with lively beaches and longer daylight hours — book your Yescapa campervan early to secure the best choice from local owners. Winter months bring mild, dry days perfect for hinterland hikes and outdoor markets.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Gold Coast

The M1 Pacific Motorway is the Gold Coast's main arterial route, running north–south and connecting Brisbane to the region without tolls. Speed limits for motorhomes over 4.5 tonnes are generally capped at 100 km/h on motorways, while standard campervans follow regular car limits. The M1 features well-signed rest areas with parking bays suitable for larger vehicles, and fuel stops are frequent along the corridor. Local roads through the hinterland, such as the Springbrook and Tamborine Mountain routes, include winding sections with occasional steep grades — take your time and use lower gears on descents. No vignette or toll is required on Gold Coast roads themselves.

Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!

Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
