Why choose Romford for your road trip

Romford — a city worth exploring

Romford's Market Place has hosted a chartered market since 1247, making it one of the oldest trading sites in Greater London. Sitting in the London Borough of Havering, this east London town blends suburban green space with easy access to the capital's landmarks. Stroll through Raphael Park, a 20-hectare expanse with a boating lake and formal gardens, or catch a show at the Brookside Theatre, a community arts venue in the heart of town. History enthusiasts can explore Havering Museum on High Street, which charts the borough's story from rural Essex to modern London. Heading south-east, the RSPB Rainham Marshes nature reserve lies just 8 km away, offering birdwatching hides along the Thames estuary. Southend-on-Sea is roughly 40 km to the east, where the world's longest pleasure pier stretches into the Thames. Romford sits at the junction of the A12 and A127, so you can reach the M25 orbital in minutes — a real advantage when you are travelling in a motorhome or campervan. The surrounding roads are well-suited to larger vehicles once you clear the town centre. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners across Romford and Havering, which means flexible pick-up points and genuine tips on where to park, eat, and explore. It is a practical, personal way to start a road trip from this well-connected corner of London.

Best time to visit

Romford comes alive in summer when the Havering Show, usually held in early September at Harrow Lodge Park, draws crowds with agricultural displays and live entertainment. Late spring through to early autumn is ideal for campervan touring, as the longer days give you more time to explore the Essex countryside and Thames estuary coast. Book your hire through Yescapa ahead of the school holidays in July and August to lock in the best choice of vehicles from local owners. Romford's position on the edge of London also makes it a smart base for autumn city breaks, when visitor numbers ease and motorhome parking is simpler to find.

Where to park your motorhome

Parking a larger vehicle in Romford town centre can be tricky, so plan ahead. Several car parks accept motorhomes during the day, though height barriers apply at some multi-storey facilities. For overnight stays, dedicated motorhome aires are limited in the immediate area, so heading to a nearby campsite is often the best option. Always check signage for height and length restrictions before entering any car park.

  • The Brewery Car Park, Adjacent to the city — Large open-air car park in Romford town centre with generous bay sizes. Check height restrictions at the entrance barrier before entering with a taller vehicle.
  • Raphael Park (on-street), 1km north — On-street parking along Main Road near Raphael Park. Suitable for smaller campervans during daytime visits. No overnight stays permitted.
  • Sainsbury's Romford Car Park, 1km south — Spacious supermarket car park with some larger bays. Useful for quick stops and provisioning. Height barrier may restrict access for high-top motorhomes.
  • RSPB Rainham Marshes Car Park, 8km southeast — Free car park at the nature reserve with space for larger vehicles. Open during reserve hours, no overnight parking allowed.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
