Greater London stretches across 1,572 square kilometres and is home to over 9 million people, making it the largest urban zone in Western Europe. From the iconic Thames Path National Trail, which winds 40 miles through the capital, to the vast green expanse of Richmond Park — London's largest royal park at 2,500 acres — this region rewards exploration at every turn. You can drive from Greenwich in the south-east to Hampton Court Palace in the south-west in roughly 25 miles, passing through a remarkable variety of neighbourhoods, each with its own character. Head north and Epping Forest offers ancient woodland on the Essex border, while Kew Gardens in the west holds over 50,000 living plants across 300 acres. The 15-mile stretch from Alexandra Palace to Crystal Palace Park takes you through some of London's most characterful suburbs, with plenty of green spaces to stop along the way. Greater London's outer boroughs are particularly well suited to campervan and motorhome travel, with quieter roads and accessible campsites compared to the congested centre. Through Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based across Greater London, choosing from a wide range of vehicles — from compact campervans ideal for couples to larger motorhomes for families. It is a practical, peer-to-peer way to begin your adventure right from the capital.
Greater London is enjoyable year-round, though late spring and summer — May to September — bring the longest days and warmest weather for touring. The Notting Hill Carnival in August is Europe's largest street festival and a fantastic spectacle. Autumn offers a quieter pace, with fewer visitors and beautiful colours in parks like Richmond and Hampstead Heath. Hiring a campervan through Yescapa during the shoulder months of May or September often means better availability and more competitive peer-to-peer pricing from local owners across Greater London. Book ahead for the summer school holidays if you plan to explore beyond the capital.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

Greater London and its surrounding areas offer a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. You will find sites ranging from peaceful rural retreats on the capital's fringes to well-equipped parks with electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated hardstanding pitches. Many sites in Greater London's outer boroughs provide easy access to public transport links, so you can leave your vehicle and explore the centre by train or tube.
Greater London's road network centres on the M25 orbital motorway, which encircles the capital and connects to all major routes heading out of the city. There are no tolls on the M25, but the Dartford Crossing (connecting Kent and Essex) charges a fee — you must pay online via the Dart Charge system. Within central London, the Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) apply to most vehicles, including motorhomes, so plan routes carefully. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3.05 tonnes match standard car limits, but heavier vehicles are restricted to 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on dual carriageways.
Muchas gracias. Gary y Michelle
Lovely experience and fantastic van. Clean and worked very well. Leonardo and Eleanora were very friendly and helpful. One small feedback is the fridge did not work very well but otherwise its a great van.
Muy buena experiencia. Ana nos ha tratado muy bien.
Proprietários espetaculares e super atenciosos. Autocaravana estava impecável, super confortável, excelente condução. Painéis solares dão autonomia total. Tudo impecável.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.
