England's coastline stretches over 3,000 miles, weaving past chalk cliffs, sandy bays and harbour towns that have shaped centuries of maritime history. From the granite headlands of Cornwall to the wide skies above the Norfolk Broads, the landscape shifts dramatically within just a few hours on the road. The drive from London to the Lake District covers roughly 450 km, while the journey from Bath to the Yorkshire Dales is around 370 km — distances that feel perfectly suited to a multi-day campervan adventure. Along the way, you can stop at landmarks such as Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain, the Roman Baths in the city of Bath, Durham Cathedral in the northeast and the Eden Project near St Austell. Coastal routes wind through fishing villages in Devon, while inland roads cross the rolling limestone scenery of the Peak District and the heather moorlands of the North York Moors. England's road network connects compact market towns with larger cities, making it easy to mix rural quiet with cultural stops. With Yescapa, you hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners spread right across the country — from the south coast to the northern borders. That peer-to-peer approach means a wider choice of vehicles and often more flexible pick-up locations, so you can start your trip closer to the places you actually want to explore.
May to September is the most popular window for a campervan trip through England, with long daylight hours and warm temperatures ideal for coastal and countryside routes. June brings events like the Royal Cornwall Show, while August sees the famous Notting Hill Carnival in London. Spring and early autumn are excellent for quieter roads and easier campsite availability, especially in the Lake District and the Cotswolds. Booking through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform can help you find competitive hire prices outside peak summer weeks, and many owners offer flexible dates that suit shorter off-season breaks across England.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.

England offers a wide variety of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes, from clifftop pitches overlooking the Atlantic in Cornwall to sheltered woodland sites in the Lake District. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, modern shower blocks and waste disposal points. You will find options spread right across England — along the coast, within national parks and close to market towns — so there is always somewhere convenient to stop for the night.
England's motorway network — including the M1, M5 and M6 — is toll-free for most stretches, with the notable exception of the M6 Toll road near Birmingham. Motorhomes and campervans under 3,500 kg follow standard car speed limits: 70 mph on motorways and 60 mph on single carriageway A-roads. Vehicles over 3,500 kg are limited to 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways. Motorway service areas appear regularly and most offer dedicated parking bays for larger vehicles. On narrower rural roads in areas like Devon, Cornwall and the Lake District, passing places are common, so take your time and use lay-bys where needed.
