Pau sits at the foot of the Pyrenees, offering one of the most celebrated panoramas in France — the Boulevard des Pyrénées stretches for 1.8 km along a natural terrace with unbroken views of the mountain chain. Once the winter capital of British aristocrats in the 19th century, the city retains a distinctive elegance. The Château de Pau, birthplace of King Henri IV in 1553, anchors the old town and houses a rich collection of Gobelin tapestries. Nearby, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Pau displays works by El Greco, Degas and Rubens. The Parc Beaumont, a 12-hectare English-style garden, is ideal for a morning stroll before heading out on the road. For nature lovers, the Gave de Pau river winds through the city and connects to cycling and walking paths along its banks. Tarbes is just 44 km to the east, while the Spanish border at Col du Somport lies roughly 100 km to the south, making Pau a superb base for cross-border adventures. The surrounding roads climb through valleys and mountain passes, so a well-equipped campervan gives you the flexibility to stop wherever the scenery demands it. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in and around Pau, which means you can collect your motorhome close to the city centre and set off towards the Pyrenees, the Atlantic coast or the vineyards of Jurançon without delay. A campervan trip from Pau puts some of south-west France's finest landscapes within easy reach.
Pau is enjoyable year-round, though late spring and early autumn are particularly rewarding for a campervan trip. The Festival de Pau, a major horse-racing and show-jumping event, runs each May and June, drawing visitors from across France. In September, the Fête de Jurançon celebrates the local wine harvest with tastings and open-air festivities. Summer is the most popular season for exploring the Pyrenees, so booking your hire on Yescapa ahead of time helps you secure the best choice of vehicles. Pau's mild climate, sheltered by the mountains, keeps conditions comfortable for driving well into October, giving you a longer touring window than many other destinations in the region.

Most are set in the green foothills of the Pyrenees or along the banks of the Gave de Pau, providing a peaceful base with mountain views. The best experience ever!! Amazing van and amazing people who run it
Muchas gracias. Gary y Michelle
Lovely experience and fantastic van. Clean and worked very well. Leonardo and Eleanora were very friendly and helpful. One small feedback is the fridge did not work very well but otherwise its a great van.
Muy buena experiencia. Ana nos ha tratado muy bien.
Proprietários espetaculares e super atenciosos. Autocaravana estava impecável, super confortável, excelente condução. Painéis solares dão autonomia total. Tudo impecável.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
