Why choose Mandurah for your road trip

Mandurah — a city worth exploring

Mandurah sits where the Serpentine and Murray rivers meet the Indian Ocean, creating a network of waterways that stretches over 130 square kilometres of estuarine channels and lakes. This coastal city, just 72 km south of Perth, has grown from a quiet fishing town into one of Western Australia's most popular destinations. You can explore the Mandurah Estuary by boardwalk, spotting wild dolphins that call these waters home year-round — an estimated 80 bottlenose dolphins live in the estuary system. The Mandurah Community Museum on Pinjarra Road tells the story of the region's Indigenous Bindjareb Noongar heritage and European settlement. For nature lovers, the Creery Wetlands Nature Reserve offers peaceful walking trails through paperbark woodlands, while Halls Head Beach provides long stretches of sand backed by dunes. Head 25 km south-east to the town of Pinjarra, where heritage buildings and the Hotham Valley Railway await. Dwellingup, roughly 60 km east, is a gateway to the Lane Poole Reserve with its jarrah forests and kayaking along the Murray River. Mandurah's flat coastal roads and well-maintained highways make it easy to navigate in a motorhome, and the region's mild climate suits year-round travel. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner, giving you the freedom to discover Mandurah and its surroundings at your own pace. The peer-to-peer model means you often find a wider choice of vehicles and flexible pick-up arrangements right in the area.

Best time to visit

Mandurah enjoys warm, dry summers and mild winters, making it a rewarding destination in any season. The Mandurah Crab Fest, typically held in March, is one of Western Australia's largest free community events and a brilliant time to visit by campervan. Summer months from December to February are ideal for beach days and dolphin-watching cruises. Autumn and spring bring comfortable driving temperatures and quieter campsites, so you can enjoy more flexibility with bookings. Through Yescapa, you can take advantage of peer-to-peer pricing, which often means better rates during off-peak months. We recommend booking early for the December–January school holiday period, when Mandurah is at its liveliest.
