Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Learmonth Airport

Learmonth Airport — a region worth exploring

Learmonth Airport sits on the doorstep of the Ningaloo Coast World Heritage Area in Western Australia, making it one of the most remarkable gateways for a road trip in the region. The airport, located roughly 36 kilometres south of Exmouth, was originally built as a military airfield during the Second World War and today serves as the main access point for travellers heading to the Cape Range National Park and the Ningaloo Reef. From Learmonth, the drive north to Exmouth covers just 36 km, while heading south to Coral Bay — another iconic snorkelling destination — is approximately 150 km along the Minilya–Exmouth Road. The landscape around Learmonth is defined by arid red-earth plains, limestone gorges within the Cape Range, and a coastline where the continental shelf comes remarkably close to shore. Turquoise Bay, Yardie Creek, and the Vlamingh Head Lighthouse are all within easy reach once you collect your vehicle. The roads here are generally well-maintained sealed routes, though some tracks into the national park require higher clearance. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across Western Australia, giving you the flexibility to pick up a vehicle that suits the terrain and your travel style. Whether you want a compact campervan for coastal exploring or a fully equipped motorhome for extended outback touring, the peer-to-peer model means more choice and often better value.

Best time to visit

The best time to hire a campervan near Learmonth is from April to October, when daytime temperatures sit comfortably between 22°C and 32°C and whale shark season draws visitors to Ningaloo Reef from mid-March through July. The Ningaloo Whale Shark Festival in Exmouth, typically held in May, is a highlight worth planning around. Campsites across Cape Range National Park are in high demand during school holidays, so booking ahead is wise. With Yescapa, peer-to-peer pricing often offers better rates outside peak July periods, and you can find motorhome options across Western Australia year-round.

Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!

Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
