Tenerife is home to Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak at 3,718 metres, which sits at the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage volcanic landscape and offers one of Europe's most dramatic backdrops for a road trip. The island stretches roughly 80 km from the lighthouse at Punta de Teno in the north-west to the resort town of El Médano in the south-east, packing an extraordinary range of scenery into a compact space. From the ancient laurel forests of the Anaga Rural Park to the black-sand beaches of Playa de Benijo, every turn reveals a different side of the island. The historic centres of La Laguna — itself a UNESCO site — and La Orotava are well worth a stop, while the towering cliffs of Los Gigantes provide a spectacular coastal viewpoint. Driving from Santa Cruz de Tenerife to the Masca Valley covers around 65 km and takes you through winding mountain roads that suit a nimble campervan perfectly. Larger motorhomes handle the main TF-1 and TF-5 motorways with ease, connecting the south coast resorts to the greener north in under an hour. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across the island, giving you a wide choice of campervans and motorhomes at peer-to-peer prices. Whether you want to wake up near a volcanic crater or beside the Atlantic, Tenerife rewards those who explore at their own pace.
Tenerife enjoys mild temperatures year-round, making it a fantastic destination for a campervan trip in any season. Spring is ideal for the Teide almond blossom in February and the famous Santa Cruz Carnival, one of the world's largest, held each February or March. Summer and early autumn bring warm, settled weather perfect for coastal stops, while winter offers comfortable daytime temperatures around 20 °C — a welcome escape from the British cold. Book ahead for peak months through Yescapa to lock in the best peer-to-peer rates on motorhome and campervan hire across Tenerife.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 120 km route traces Tenerife's lush northern shoreline from Santa Cruz to Garachico, passing through the colonial streets of La Laguna and the botanical gardens of Puerto de la Cruz. Ideal for a campervan, with plenty of coastal viewpoints along the way.
Wind through 80 km of ancient laurel forest in the Anaga Rural Park, starting from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Stop at Playa de Benijo and the hilltop village of Taganana. A compact campervan handles the narrow mountain roads with ease.
Covering 180 km, this Tenerife loop links the towering cliffs of Los Gigantes with the remote Masca Valley and the black-sand coves near Buenavista del Norte. Allow extra time for photo stops — the scenery is relentless. Suits both campervans and motorhomes on the main roads.
A 300 km circuit through Tenerife's volcanic heartland, climbing from La Orotava to the Teide National Park and descending via Vilaflor, Spain's highest village. Motorhomes manage the TF-21 well, and stargazing from the highlands is unforgettable.
Follow 350 km of coastline around the entire island, from the surf beaches of El Médano to the banana plantations near Icod de los Vinos. Campsites are spread along the route, and the mix of motorway and coastal road suits a motorhome or campervan equally.
At 500 km, this comprehensive route covers coast, forest and volcano in one trip. Start in Santa Cruz, loop through Anaga, head west to Los Gigantes, climb to Teide and finish along the sunny south coast. Perfect for two weeks of unhurried exploration in a campervan.

Tenerife offers a small but well-placed selection of campsites spread from the volcanic highlands to the southern coast. Whether you arrive in a compact campervan or a larger motorhome, you will find pitches with electrical hook-ups, fresh water, showers and waste-disposal points. Coastal sites near El Médano suit beach lovers, while highland spots close to Teide National Park put you among pine forests and starlit skies.
Tenerife's main roads, the TF-1 (south) and TF-5 (north), are modern, toll-free motorways that loop around much of the coast, making them easy to navigate in a motorhome. The general speed limit on these motorways is 120 km/h for cars, but vehicles over 3,500 kg are restricted to 90 km/h. Mountain routes such as the TF-21 up to Teide and the TF-436 to Masca are narrow and winding — a compact campervan is the better choice here. Rest areas with parking bays appear regularly along the motorways, and fuel stations are well spaced across the island.
The best experience ever!! Amazing van and amazing people who run it
Muchas gracias. Gary y Michelle
Lovely experience and fantastic van. Clean and worked very well. Leonardo and Eleanora were very friendly and helpful. One small feedback is the fridge did not work very well but otherwise its a great van.
Muy buena experiencia. Ana nos ha tratado muy bien.
Proprietários espetaculares e super atenciosos. Autocaravana estava impecável, super confortável, excelente condução. Painéis solares dão autonomia total. Tudo impecável.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
