Why choose Tarifa for your road trip

Tarifa — a city worth exploring

Tarifa sits at the southernmost tip of continental Europe, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea at a point just 14 km from the Moroccan coast. Known worldwide as one of Europe's premier wind and kite-surfing destinations, the town's consistent Levante and Poniente winds draw water-sports enthusiasts year-round. Within the old quarter, the Castillo de Guzmán el Bueno — a 10th-century fortress built during the Caliphate of Córdoba — offers panoramic views across the Strait of Gibraltar. Stroll along Playa de Los Lances, a 10 km stretch of golden sand that doubles as a protected bird habitat, or head 10 km north-west to the Roman ruins at Baelo Claudia, an archaeological site overlooking the wild Bolonia beach. The Parque Natural del Estrecho lines the coast with walking trails, whale-watching lookouts and unspoilt coves. Cádiz lies roughly 110 km to the north-west, while the Rock of Gibraltar is about 45 km to the north-east, making Tarifa an ideal base for exploring Andalusia's southern coastline. The roads around Tarifa are well-suited to campervan travel, with the N-340 coastal route offering wide lanes and regular service areas. With Yescapa, you hire your motorhome or campervan directly from local owners, giving you the flexibility to pick up nearby and set off at your own pace.

Best time to visit

Tarifa welcomes visitors throughout the year thanks to its mild coastal climate. Spring and early summer are ideal for exploring by campervan, with comfortable temperatures and quieter roads. The Feria de Tarifa in September fills the old town with live music, flamenco and local gastronomy. Summer is the busiest season for kite-surfing, so booking your motorhome through Yescapa early helps you secure the best choice from local owners. Autumn and winter bring excellent whale and dolphin watching in the Strait, plus fewer crowds at Tarifa's beaches and campsites.

An absolute 10/10 experience from start to finish! The owners were exceptionally professional, super friendly, and made everything from initial contact to booking and collection completely seamless. Meeting their beloved camper van, 'Olaf,' was the highlight of our trip. As first-time drivers of anything larger than an SUV, we were initially nervous, but Olaf completely surprised us—being fully automatic and featuring Android Auto infotainment system, he was an absolute breeze to drive and got us to our destinations hassle-free. The camper is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short getaway, and honestly, you could easily stay much longer. If we ever find ourselves back in France, we would love to take Olaf out for another spin!

We absolutely loved our time in the caddy! Everything was great, from the collection, the functionality and the communication. The van is small but mighty, the owners have thought of every little detail (sink, shower, storage, kitchen, and a good sized comfy bed). We highly recommend using Yescapa and hiring this van- perfect for your dolomites adventure!
