The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) handles over 88 million passengers each year, making it the busiest gateway on the US West Coast and a natural starting point for a campervan adventure. From LAX, you can reach the golden sands of Santa Monica Pier in just 15 km, while the dramatic cliffs of Point Dume in Malibu sit roughly 55 km to the north-west. The city itself stretches across a vast coastal basin framed by the Santa Monica Mountains, the San Gabriel Mountains, and the Pacific Ocean — a geography that rewards slow, flexible travel. Head south along the Pacific Coast Highway and you will pass through Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, and the Palos Verdes Peninsula before reaching Long Beach and its famous Queen Mary ship. Drive inland and the sprawling Angeles National Forest opens up with campable trails and panoramic viewpoints. The region's network of well-maintained freeways — the I-405, I-10, and US-101 — connects beaches, deserts, and mountain passes, so a motorhome gives you the freedom to cover ground without sacrificing comfort. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners based around Los Angeles, which means you can arrange a convenient pick-up close to the airport and set off at your own pace. Whether you are drawn to surf culture, desert stargazing, or vineyard-dotted hillsides, a peer-to-peer hire puts the whole of Southern California within easy reach.
Southern California enjoys a long touring season, and hiring a campervan near Los Angeles works well from March right through to November. Spring brings wildflower blooms across the Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, usually peaking in April, while the Malibu Triathlon each September draws crowds along the coast. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your Yescapa motorhome a few weeks ahead helps you lock in the best choice of vehicles and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Autumn offers warm days, quieter campsites, and golden light along the Pacific Coast Highway — ideal for a relaxed road trip around Los Angeles.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 250 km loop follows the Pacific Coast Highway from Los Angeles through Malibu and Point Dume before circling back via Topanga Canyon. Allow 3–6 days to enjoy beachside campervan stops, seafood shacks, and sunset hikes at El Matador State Beach.
Cover 200 km from Los Angeles east into the Mojave, passing through Palm Springs and on to Joshua Tree National Park. Over 3–5 days you can stargaze from your campervan, explore Skull Rock, and soak in Desert Hot Springs.
Head 450 km north-west from Los Angeles along the US-101 through Santa Barbara and into the Paso Robles wine country. A motorhome suits this 5–8 day trip perfectly, with vineyard campsites near Solvang and coastal walks at Pismo Beach.
This 400 km circuit from Los Angeles loops through Anza-Borrego Desert State Park and the Salton Sea before returning via Temecula. Plan 5–8 days and look for spacious motorhome pitches with hook-ups at Borrego Springs.

The Los Angeles region offers a wide mix of campsites, from beachfront pitches with ocean views to sheltered spots tucked into state park canyons. Many sites provide full hook-ups for motorhomes alongside smaller pads suited to campervans, and facilities typically include showers, toilets, and picnic areas. Booking ahead is worthwhile during summer, especially for coastal locations between Malibu and Laguna Beach.
Freeways around Los Angeles are toll-free for most vehicles, though a few express lanes on the I-10 and I-110 use the FasTrak electronic system. Motorhomes and campervans follow the same speed limits as cars on most roads — typically 65 mph (105 km/h) on freeways — but vehicles over 10,000 lbs must stay in the two right-hand lanes. Rest areas along major routes such as the I-5 and US-101 offer parking bays large enough for bigger rigs. Watch for height restrictions in older tunnels and car parks in central Los Angeles.
We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!
Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.
Very easy and open person… all went well , on time and with all the agremants.
Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.
We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
We had a great experience. All went smoothly and the camper van was perfect. Mike was very accommodating and communicative throughout and we would recommend highly.
