Girona's cathedral boasts the widest Gothic nave in the world at 22.98 metres, a record it has held since its completion in 1417. This compact Catalan city sits where the rivers Onyar, Ter, Güell and Galligants meet, creating a waterfront lined with pastel-coloured houses that have become an icon of the region. Stroll through the Jewish Quarter, one of the best-preserved medieval Jewish neighbourhoods in Europe, before crossing the Eiffel Bridge — yes, designed by Gustave Eiffel — for views over the old town. Art lovers can spend a morning at the Museu d'Art de Girona, housed in the former Episcopal Palace, while the Banys Àrabs offer a peaceful look at 12th-century Romanesque architecture. Beyond the city walls, the Costa Brava coastline begins just 35 km to the east, and the Pyrenean foothills rise roughly 80 km to the north, giving you an ideal base for both beach days and mountain drives. Girona's manageable size means you can park on the outskirts and explore the centre on foot, then return to your campervan for the next leg of your trip. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in and around Girona, which means flexible pick-up points and first-hand tips on the best routes. Whether you are heading south along the coast in a motorhome or winding through volcanic landscapes in a campervan, Girona is a rewarding starting point.
Girona enjoys a Mediterranean climate that makes it a great destination from spring through to autumn. May and June bring warm, comfortable days — perfect for driving the Costa Brava without the peak-season bustle. If you visit in late October, the Fira de Sant Narcís, Girona's biggest annual festival, fills the city with fairground rides, concerts and fireworks. Summer remains the most popular period, so booking your campervan on Yescapa early gives you the widest choice from local owners and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Autumn and winter are quieter, ideal for exploring Girona's museums and nearby Pyrenean villages at a relaxed pace.
Girona is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 150 km north from Girona through the eastern Pyrenees into southern France. Stop at the medieval town of Besalú and the fortress of Salses before reaching Carcassonne's walled citadel. Campervan parking is available near the Canal du Midi. Allow 3 to 6 days to enjoy the route at a relaxed pace.
Drive 220 km west from Girona into the high Pyrenees. Pass through the volcanic zone of La Garrotxa and the charming town of Sort before reaching the Val d'Aran. Explore Vielha and the Romanesque churches of the Boí Valley. Motorhome service areas are well signposted along the route. Plan 5 to 8 days.
Cover 280 km south-west from Girona along the Mediterranean coast. Pause in Tarragona to see the Roman amphitheatre, then continue through the rice fields of the Ebro Delta. Valencia's City of Arts and Sciences makes a fitting finale. Campervan-friendly campsites dot the coastline throughout. Allow 5 to 8 days.
A short 40 km drive east from Girona brings you to Tossa de Mar and its 12th-century walled old town. Stop at the hilltop village of Romanyà de la Selva and swim at Cala Giverola. Parking near the beach suits smaller campervans best. A 1 to 3 day trip is ideal for a coastal escape.
Just 35 km north-east of Girona, Besalú is famous for its fortified Romanesque bridge. Visit the Mikveh, a rare medieval Jewish ritual bath, and walk the arcaded Plaça Major. Motorhome parking is available on the edge of town. This 1 to 3 day trip pairs well with a visit to nearby Banyoles lake.
Travel 130 km south-east from Girona along the AP-7 to Barcelona. Break the journey at the seaside town of Calella and the Montnegre i el Corredor Natural Park. In Barcelona, explore Park Güell and the Gothic Quarter. Dedicated motorhome areas sit on the city outskirts. Allow 3 to 6 days.

The area around Girona offers a fine mix of coastal, countryside and riverside campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Many sites along the Costa Brava provide full hook-ups, modern shower blocks and spacious pitches for larger vehicles. Inland, you will find quieter spots near the Pyrenean foothills with nature trails and swimming pools. Booking ahead in summer is recommended, as Girona's coastal campsites are popular with touring travellers.
Girona's old town has a low-emission zone, so larger vehicles should stay on the outskirts. Several car parks near the centre accept campervans and motorhomes during the day, though overnight stays in public car parks are not permitted within the city. For overnight parking, head to a designated motorhome area or a nearby campsite. Always check height barriers before entering underground facilities, as many are limited to 2.1 metres.
Tuvimos una gran semana con la furgo, yo y dos hijos adultos. El dueño Samu fue de mucha ayuda por mensajes de texto para extra preguntas mientras estuvimos fuera, y nos llevó a la estación después de devolver la furgo
We had a lovely trip. The van has absolutely everything you need, and Pedro and Davids were so helpful and kind. Would recommend this van!
We had a great time with the van, the owner was very helpful and the van was perfect for our weekend around SW Biarritz.
Everything was as described by Giulio. He was very accommodating and ready for any question/doubt we had. It was our first experience with a motorhome and Giulio made sure we felt comfortable and safe trying his motorhome. Thank you Giulio and see you next time!
Grazie mille Lorenzo! Alla prossima :)
Excellent van! Comfortable. spacious and rives like a dream. Also the owner, Albert, is a pleasure to deal with. Incredible communicator, very helpful and honest!
