Why choose Whistler for your road trip

Whistler — a city worth exploring

Whistler's Peak 2 Peak Gondola holds the record as the longest free-span between ropeway towers at 3.03 kilometres, connecting Whistler and Blackcomb mountains since 2008. Nestled in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia, this resort town served as a co-host venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics and continues to draw visitors year-round. Beyond the slopes, you can explore the Squamish Lil'wat Cultural Centre, which celebrates the heritage of two First Nations whose traditional territories overlap here. The Audain Art Museum houses an impressive collection of British Columbian art spanning from the late 18th century to the present day. For a change of pace, stroll through Whistler Village, a pedestrian-only area lined with shops and eateries at the base of the mountains. Vancouver sits roughly 125 km to the south along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, one of Canada's most scenic drives, while the outdoor adventure hub of Squamish is just 60 km south. The winding mountain roads and dramatic elevation changes make travelling by campervan an experience in itself, with pull-offs and viewpoints dotted along the route. If you fancy exploring at your own rhythm, hiring a motorhome through Yescapa lets you connect directly with local owners who know the region well. A campervan gives you the freedom to wake up beside alpine lakes or forest trails without being tied to hotel check-in times.

Best time to visit

Whistler transforms with each season, and there is always a reason to visit. The Whistler Film Festival in late November and early December brings independent cinema to the mountains, while Crankworx in August is one of the world's premier mountain biking festivals. Summer months from June to September are ideal for campervan travel, with longer days and accessible mountain trails. Book your Yescapa hire early for July and August, as these are the most sought-after months. Shoulder seasons in May and October offer quieter roads and more availability from local motorhome owners, often at friendlier prices through peer-to-peer sharing.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.
