Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Vancouver Airport

Vancouver Airport — a region worth exploring

Vancouver International Airport (YVR) handles over 26 million passengers each year and sits on Sea Island in Richmond, just 12 km south of downtown Vancouver. As the second-busiest airport in Canada, it serves as a natural launchpad for exploring British Columbia's Pacific coastline, ancient rainforests, and mountain landscapes. From the terminal, you can reach the Sea-to-Sky Highway within 40 minutes, opening up a route that stretches 150 km north to Whistler through some of the most dramatic coastal mountain scenery in North America. Head east and the Trans-Canada Highway carries you 400 km to Kamloops, passing through the Fraser Valley's farmland and into the rugged canyon country around Hope. Closer to the airport, the Gulf Islands are accessible by ferry from Tsawwassen, just 25 km south, offering quiet island-hopping by campervan. Stanley Park, Granville Island, and the Capilano Suspension Bridge are all within easy reach before you set off on a longer adventure. The region around Vancouver suits every style of road trip, from weekend coastal loops to multi-week crossings of the province. With Yescapa, you can hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners based in and around Vancouver, giving you a wide choice of vehicles and the flexibility of peer-to-peer pricing. It is an ideal way to start your British Columbia journey right from the airport's doorstep.

Best time to visit

The best time to hire a campervan near Vancouver Airport is from May to October, when campgrounds across British Columbia are fully open and trails are accessible. The Vancouver International Jazz Festival runs each June, while the Pacific National Exhibition fills the city with fairground energy every August. Spring and autumn offer quieter roads and lower hire rates through Yescapa's peer-to-peer platform, making shoulder-season trips excellent value. Book summer trips early, as July and August are the most popular months for campervan travel in the Vancouver region.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Vancouver Airport

British Columbia's major highways are toll-free for most routes you will travel from Vancouver Airport, with the exception of some bridge crossings. Motorhomes and campervans must follow posted speed limits of 100 km/h on most highways, though some sections drop to 90 km/h for larger vehicles. The Sea-to-Sky Highway (Highway 99) features steep grades and winding sections, so allow extra time in a larger motorhome. Rest areas with free parking are well spaced along the Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) and Highway 5, often with dump stations and fresh water.

Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!

Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
