The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Annecy sits at the northern tip of Lac d'Annecy, a lake so clean it is often called the purest in Europe, fed by mountain springs filtered through protected marshlands since a 1960s restoration programme. The medieval Palais de l'Île, perched on a tiny island in the Thiou canal, has served as a prison, courthouse and mint over seven centuries and remains the most photographed landmark in the old town. Stroll along the Jardins de l'Europe, cross the Pont des Amours footbridge, and follow the lakeside cycle path that stretches 40 km around the entire shore. The Château d'Annecy, a former residence of the Counts of Geneva, now houses a regional museum with Alpine natural-history collections. For a wider perspective, take the road up to the Col de la Forclaz viewpoint or hike the trails around La Tournette, the highest peak on the eastern shore at 2 351 m. Geneva is just 42 km to the north, making a cross-border day trip easy, while Chambéry lies 51 km to the south along the A41 motorway. The roads around the lake are well surfaced but can be narrow in places, so choosing the right vehicle matters. With Yescapa, you hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners who know the best lakeside pull-ins and mountain routes, giving you insider knowledge alongside the freedom to explore the French Alps at your own pace.
Annecy comes alive in June with the Fête du Lac, one of Europe's largest pyromusical firework displays held over the water in early August, and the Annecy International Animation Film Festival each June draws creators from around the world. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan early through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer prices before availability tightens. Spring and autumn bring quieter roads around the lake and mild conditions ideal for cycling or hiking. Winter opens up nearby ski resorts such as La Clusaz, just 32 km away, making a motorhome hire a cosy base camp for the slopes.
Annecy is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 65 km south-east from Annecy along the eastern lakeshore, passing the pretty village of Talloires before climbing to Col de la Forclaz. Stop at the Montmin plateau for panoramic lake views and visit the Cascade d'Angon waterfall. Campervan parking is available at the col summit.
A gentle 55 km drive south from Annecy brings you to the Belle Époque spa town of Aix-les-Bains on Lac du Bourget. Explore the Musée Faure's Impressionist collection and take a boat trip to the Abbaye de Hautecombe. Several motorhome-friendly aires line the lakefront for overnight stays.
Cover 140 km north-east from Annecy through the Arve valley to reach Chamonix at the foot of Mont Blanc. Ride the Aiguille du Midi cable car and walk the Mer de Glace glacier trail. Campervan pitches in Chamonix fill quickly in summer, so arrive early or book ahead.
Travel 180 km south-west from Annecy to Grenoble, gateway to the Vercors massif. Visit the Bastille fortress via its cable car, then drive into the Vercors Regional Natural Park to explore the Gorges de la Bourne. Motorhome service areas are well signposted along the route.
This 250 km route west from Annecy leads to Lyon, France's gastronomic capital. Wander the traboules of Vieux Lyon and sample local cuisine in a traditional bouchon, then continue north into the Beaujolais vineyards. Dedicated campervan stopovers at wine estates make tasting easy.
Set off 310 km south from Annecy along the Route Napoléon towards Provence. Pause at Sisteron's dramatic citadel, then continue to the lavender fields around Valensole and the Gorges du Verdon. Plan for several overnight stops — aires and campsites are plentiful along this scenic corridor.

The shores of Lac d'Annecy are lined with well-equipped campsites offering direct lake access, mountain views and full facilities for both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, service points for fresh water and waste disposal, plus showers and toilets. Whether you prefer a pitch right beside the water at the southern end of the lake or a hillside spot closer to Annecy's old town, you will find options within a short drive of the centre.
Parking a larger vehicle in Annecy requires a little planning. The town centre has height barriers on most underground car parks, so campervans and motorhomes should use dedicated surface areas. Overnight parking in public car parks is generally permitted unless signs state otherwise, but always check local signage for time limits. A dedicated motorhome aire is the safest option for an overnight stay close to the action.
Ottimo camper, semplice da guidare. Esperienza positiva
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
