Albufeira's Old Town sits atop sandstone cliffs that were once part of a Moorish fortress, with remnants of its 8th-century walls still visible near Rua da Bateria. Today the city is the most visited destination in the Algarve, drawing travellers to its golden-sand beaches, lively marina, and winding cobbled streets. Praia dos Pescadores, the former fishermen's beach right below the Old Town, offers direct access to calm Atlantic waters, while the dramatic rock formations at Praia da Marinha — roughly 12 km to the east — regularly feature among Europe's finest coastal scenery. For culture, the Museu Municipal de Arqueologia showcases artefacts from the Neolithic to the Islamic period, and the Igreja Matriz de Albufeira is a fine example of 18th-century neoclassical architecture. Families enjoy Zoomarine, a marine-themed park about 8 km north-west of the centre, and the Strip offers restaurants and nightlife along Avenida Sá Carneiro. Faro, the Algarve's capital, is just 36 km to the east, while Silves and its imposing red-sandstone castle lie 33 km to the north-west — both make excellent day trips. The coastline here is ideal for campervan and motorhome travel, with wide, well-maintained roads connecting beach towns and plenty of services along the EN125. Through Yescapa you can hire directly from local owners, which means you get insider tips on the best coastal viewpoints and quieter parking spots that only residents know about.
Albufeira enjoys a long season of warm, sunny weather that stretches from April through to October. For a quieter experience, May and June are ideal — campsites have good availability and the beaches are pleasantly uncrowded. Summer peaks in July and August, when the Festa da Ourada livens up the waterfront with live music and seafood stalls. Booking your campervan through Yescapa early for these months is a smart move, as peer-to-peer pricing often undercuts traditional hire companies. Autumn brings the Albufeira New Year celebrations in late December, one of the Algarve's biggest fireworks displays. Mild winters suit those who prefer gentle coastal walks and fewer fellow travellers on the road.

The Albufeira area offers a good mix of coastal and inland campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Several are within walking distance of beaches, while others sit among pine and carob trees in the surrounding countryside. If you prefer a quieter base, campsites near Armação de Pêra and Olhão give easy access to Albufeira while avoiding the busier centre.
Albufeira has several large car parks that can accommodate motorhomes and campervans, particularly around the outskirts of the Old Town. Overnight parking in public car parks is generally tolerated but not officially permitted for camping — keep awnings stowed and avoid setting up outside furniture. Height barriers apply in some underground car parks, so stick to open-air surface lots for taller vehicles. Always check local signage for time limits and fees.
I had the most wonderful trip in Eve’s van. It has everything you need, a great sized fridge, a large comfy bed, cooking equipment, electrics to be off grid, a great shower & toilet. The van ran very smoothly and was a perfect size even driving through the towns was no problem at all. They were very accommodating, helping me with local tip and recommendations. I’d 100% recommend this van to anyone thinking of taking a road trip, you won’t regret it :)
Inigio and his lovely girlfriend looked after Dolly for one week here in the Algarve area. They brought her back clean and in really good shape. Before and during the rental period we had a very good dialogue. I can highly reccomend them to lend your car. :-)
Our trip was fantastic, couldn't recommend travelling Sicily via Camper further. Angela and Luca made that super easy with clear comms and help pre booking, during holiday and after. pick up and drop off was a breeze. Clear instructions on how to use the van. All in all great trip.
Fabio made the whole process super easy and was very flexible with our plans. The van was perfect. Practically brand new and had all we needed.
Fantastic experience. Raul really went above and beyond to help us out and was always responsive with any queries we had. The van was in excellent condition, had everything we needed, and was ideal for our trip into the Pyrenees, plus heading south for the solar eclipse. Would highly recommend.
