Nazaré sits on Portugal's Silver Coast, where the Nazaré Canyon — one of the deepest submarine canyons in Europe at over 5,000 metres — funnels Atlantic swells into record-breaking waves that regularly top 20 metres at Praia do Norte. Beyond the world-famous surf, the town is split between three distinct levels: the beachfront Praia district, the clifftop Sítio reached by a 19th-century funicular, and the inland neighbourhood of Pederneira. Wander through the Santuário de Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, perched on the Sítio promontory with panoramic ocean views, or explore the Museu Dr. Joaquim Manso for local ethnography and maritime heritage. The Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo, right on the headland, doubles as a surf-watching platform and small exhibition space. Óbidos, a beautifully preserved medieval walled town, lies just 40 km to the south, while the university city of Coimbra is roughly 120 km to the north — both make rewarding day trips. The coastline around Nazaré offers wide, well-surfaced roads ideal for larger vehicles, and several dedicated motorhome service areas sit within easy reach. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners, which means flexible pick-up points and first-hand tips on the best coastal parking spots and quieter beaches that only residents know about.
Nazaré is a year-round destination. Summer, from June to September, brings warm days perfect for beach life and the lively Festival da Sardinha in July. For big-wave season, visit between October and March — the Nazaré Tow Surfing Challenge window opens in November and draws crowds to the clifftops. Spring and autumn are ideal for campervan touring, with mild temperatures and quieter campsites along the coast. Book your motorhome through Yescapa outside peak summer months and you can often find better hire rates from local owners, plus more availability at nearby service areas.
Nazaré is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 40 km south from Nazaré to the walled town of Óbidos. Stop at the Lagoa de Óbidos for birdwatching and watersports, then explore the medieval castle and Rua Direita lined with craft shops. Campervan parking is available just outside the town walls, making access straightforward for larger vehicles.
Drive 33 km north-east from Nazaré to Leiria, home to a hilltop castle with sweeping views over the Lis river valley. Visit the Moinho do Papel, a restored paper mill, and stroll through the old town. Motorhome service points are available on the outskirts, and roads are wide and well maintained throughout.
Travel 120 km north from Nazaré to Coimbra, Portugal's historic university city. Explore the Biblioteca Joanina and the Sé Velha cathedral, then walk along the Mondego riverfront. Break the journey at the Mata Nacional do Buçaco for forest trails. Campervan-friendly parking is well signposted near the city centre.
Cover 130 km south from Nazaré to Sintra, passing through Peniche — a great spot for seafood and surf. In Sintra, visit the Palácio da Pena and the Moorish Castle set among forested hills. Roads narrow near the palaces, so arrive early. Dedicated campervan parking is available at the edge of town.
Follow the coast 210 km north from Nazaré to Porto, stopping at Aveiro to cruise its colourful moliceiro boats and canal-side Art Nouveau buildings. In Porto, explore the Livraria Lello and the Ribeira district along the Douro. Several motorhome service areas sit just south of the city for convenient overnight stays.
Head 310 km south-east from Nazaré into the Alentejo to reach Évora, a UNESCO World Heritage city. Visit the Roman Temple and the Capela dos Ossos, then sample regional wines in surrounding estates. The open Alentejo roads suit campervans perfectly, and free overnight parking areas are dotted along the route.

For overnight stays, a dedicated motorhome service area on the edge of town provides water, waste disposal, and electricity. Always check local signage for any seasonal restrictions.
Ottimo camper, semplice da guidare. Esperienza positiva
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
