Why choose Milan for your road trip

Milan — a city worth exploring

Milan's Duomo cathedral took nearly six centuries to complete, with construction beginning in 1386 and the final details finished only in 1965. Today the city is a dynamic crossroads of design, fashion and history, where you can wander from the grand Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to the Renaissance masterpiece of Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper at Santa Maria delle Grazie. The Navigli district, once a network of canals designed in part by Leonardo himself, is now lined with cafés and studios perfect for an evening stroll. Art lovers will find the Pinacoteca di Brera packed with works by Caravaggio and Raphael, while the Castello Sforzesco houses Michelangelo's final sculpture. Milan also makes an excellent base for wider exploration: Lake Como sits just 50 km to the north, and the medieval towers of Bergamo are roughly 60 km to the north-east, both easy day trips by road. The surrounding Lombardy plain is flat and well connected by motorways, making it straightforward to navigate in a larger vehicle. With Yescapa, you hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in and around Milan, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and genuine insider tips on where to go next. Whether you are planning a weekend city break or setting off on a longer Italian road trip, Milan is a rewarding place to start your journey.

Best time to visit

Milan is wonderful to visit from April to June and again in September and October, when mild temperatures make it comfortable to explore on foot and by campervan. In April the city hosts the Salone del Mobile, the world-famous furniture and design fair that fills every neighbourhood with events. December brings the Oh Bej! Oh Bej! Christmas market near the Castello Sforzesco, a tradition dating back to 1510. Summer is the busiest period for motorhome travel across northern Italy, so booking your Yescapa hire early gives you the widest choice of vehicles and competitive peer-to-peer prices. Milan's position on the edge of the Po Valley means autumn colours around the nearby lakes are spectacular.

Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.

Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.

We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Communication was easy, the vehicle is in good condition and looks like the shared photos. Has the amenities needed and comfy bedding. Having the solar charger is a plus given we didn't drive much, so there was no need for recharging with electricity.
