Lille's Palais des Beaux-Arts holds the second-largest fine arts collection in France, spread across 22,000 square metres of gallery space. The city sits at the crossroads of French and Flemish culture, and that blend shows in everything from its ornate Vieille Bourse to the colourful façades lining Grand Place. Wander through the Citadelle de Lille, a star-shaped fortress designed by Vauban in 1667, or explore the contemporary exhibitions at LaM – Lille Métropole Musée d'Art Moderne. Families enjoy the Parc Zoologique de Lille, while food lovers can lose themselves in the covered halls of the Marché de Wazemmes every Sunday morning. Bruges is just 115 km to the north-west, and the Côte d'Opale coastline begins roughly 75 km away, making Lille a superb launchpad for longer tours. The surrounding Hauts-de-France countryside is largely flat, so driving a motorhome through the region is straightforward, with wide roads and easy access to smaller towns. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners in and around Lille, which means flexible pick-up points, personal tips on the best routes, and competitive pricing compared with traditional hire depots. Whether you are planning a weekend city break or a week-long road trip across northern France and into Belgium, a campervan from Lille puts you right at the heart of it all.
Lille is wonderful from late spring through to autumn. The famous Braderie de Lille, Europe's largest flea market, fills the streets on the first weekend of September — arrive early to grab a pitch at a nearby campsite. Summer months bring long daylight hours ideal for exploring by campervan, and many local events run through July and August. Spring is quieter, with pleasant driving conditions and more availability on Yescapa, where peer-to-peer pricing often means better rates outside peak season. Book ahead for September if you want to experience the Braderie, and consider midweek departures from Lille for a more relaxed start to your trip.

The area around Lille offers a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites sit in the green belt surrounding the city, giving you easy access to the centre while enjoying a countryside setting. Expect facilities such as electric hook-ups, service points for fresh and waste water, hot showers, and Wi-Fi. Several sites welcome families with play areas and on-site shops. Booking ahead is wise during the Braderie de Lille weekend in September.
Lille has several park-and-ride facilities on the outskirts that can accommodate larger vehicles, making them a practical option if you want to visit the city centre without navigating narrow streets. Overnight parking in a motorhome or campervan on public roads within Lille is generally not permitted, so plan to use a dedicated aire or campsite for sleeping. Always check height barriers before entering any car park, as many city-centre structures have a 1.90 m limit.
Patricia and Jorge were great, waiting at the airport when we arived and waiting 30mins at the return when we took a wrong turn. Helpful and friendly. Signed off the return easily and quickly. The van has character and plenty of Km but it was in perfect running order. I'd have no problem hiring from them again.
Frederick was lovely and the van was super. A lot of storage for a van plus a screen that separates the toilet from the shower which is much less of a mess. Big fridge and good cooking area and sink. The water pressure is very good so when you shower you get a really good pressure, having said that prepare to top up your water tank frequently. Lovely trip and a really well equipped and user friendly van layout would rent again!
Amazing experience! Jeremie has been so kind and helpful. The van is ideal, everything you need is there. Everything was smooth and easy. We will do the same again soon!
