Finistère takes its name from the Latin finis terrae, meaning "end of the earth," and this westernmost département of mainland France delivers on that promise with over 1,200 km of coastline — more than any other in Brittany. From the pink granite chaos of the Pointe de Pen-Hir on the Crozon Peninsula to the towering Phare de l'Île Vierge, Europe's tallest traditional stone lighthouse at 82.5 metres, the landscapes here are shaped by the Atlantic. The medieval walled town of Concarneau sits roughly 70 km south of Brest, while the cathedral city of Quimper, Finistère's cultural capital, is just 20 km inland from the coast at Bénodet. You can explore the rugged Monts d'Arrée, a low mountain range that rarely tops 385 metres yet feels genuinely remote, or follow the Abers — tidal estuaries unique to this part of Brittany — where the coastline fractures into a maze of inlets and sandy coves. Roads throughout Finistère are generally well-suited to larger vehicles, with wide départementale routes linking coastal towns and plenty of dedicated motorhome service areas along the way. Whether you fancy a campervan trip along the wild Pointe du Raz headland or a longer motorhome tour taking in the parish closes of the Élorn valley, Yescapa connects you with local owners across Finistère who share their vehicles peer-to-peer, so you can hire the right campervan for your adventure without the formality of a traditional depot.
Finistère enjoys a mild oceanic climate, making it a comfortable destination from late April through to October. The Festival de Cornouaille in Quimper each July celebrates Breton music, dance and culture over several days, while the Fête des Bruyères in Beuzec-Cap-Sizun in August offers a more intimate local gathering. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your campervan early on Yescapa gives you the widest choice of vehicles from local owners — often at better rates than traditional hire. Spring and early autumn bring quieter roads and campsites with full facilities still open, ideal for a relaxed motorhome tour of the Crozon Peninsula or the Monts d'Arrée.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 120 km loop explores the Crozon Peninsula over 3–5 days. Stop at the Pointe de Pen-Hir for dramatic cliff views, swim at Plage de l'Île Vierge, and visit Camaret-sur-Mer's historic Vauban tower. Compact campervan-friendly roads with several seaside aires along the route.
A 150 km coastal drive over 3–6 days linking the great lighthouses of Finistère's western tip. Take in the Phare de Saint-Mathieu, the Phare du Petit Minou and the views out to the Phare de la Jument from the Pointe du Raz. Ideal for a motorhome with regular service areas en route.
Cover 280 km in 5–8 days along Finistère's northern shore. Explore the tidal estuaries of Aber Wrac'h and Aber Benoît, visit the Phare de l'Île Vierge, then continue east to the seaside resort of Roscoff. Campervan or motorhome — both suit these well-maintained coastal roads.
A 350 km circuit over 5–8 days through southern Finistère. Start in Quimper, head to Concarneau's walled old town, round the Pointe de la Torche for surfing, and loop back via Douarnenez. Plenty of campsites with full hook-ups for campervans and motorhomes throughout.
This 500 km route over 7–11 days circles the entire département. From Brest, head south to Quimper, west to the Pointe du Raz, north through the Abers, and back via the Monts d'Arrée. A comprehensive Finistère road trip with motorhome service areas well spaced along the way.
An immersive 600 km journey over 10–15 days covering every corner of Finistère. Combine coast and countryside — from the parish closes of the Élorn valley to the beaches of the Pays Bigouden and the wild Monts d'Arrée. Best in a campervan for flexibility on quieter inland lanes.

Finistère offers a wide spread of campsites, from beachfront pitches on the southern Cornouaille coast to sheltered inland sites near the Monts d'Arrée. Most welcome both campervans and motorhomes, with electric hook-ups, dedicated service points, fresh water and waste disposal as standard. Coastal sites often include direct beach access, while quieter rural options provide generous pitches surrounded by hedgerows. Booking ahead in July and August is wise, but spring and autumn visitors will find plenty of availability across Finistère.
Finistère has no motorway toll roads — the RN12 and RN165 dual carriageways connecting Brest, Quimper and the rest of Brittany are free to use. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 110 km/h on dual carriageways and 80 km/h on single-carriageway roads. Many coastal routes are narrower départementale roads, so take care on the Crozon Peninsula and around the Abers where passing places can be tight for larger vehicles. Dedicated motorhome service areas (aires de services) are well distributed across the département, offering fresh water, waste disposal and overnight parking.
Esperienza positiva
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
