Why choose Nantes for your road trip

Nantes — a city worth exploring

Nantes sits at the confluence of the Loire and Erdre rivers, a city where a mechanical elephant roams the former shipyards of Île de Nantes as part of Les Machines de l'Île, an art project unlike anything else in Europe. Once the capital of the Duchy of Brittany, Nantes blends centuries of history with bold contemporary culture. Explore the Château des Ducs de Bretagne, a 15th-century fortress housing the Nantes History Museum, then stroll through the Jardin des Plantes, home to over 10,000 plant species across 7 hectares. Art lovers can follow Le Voyage à Nantes, a trail of permanent and temporary installations winding through the city centre and beyond. The Passage Pommeraye, a 19th-century shopping arcade with ornate staircases and sculpted figures, is well worth a visit. For a change of scenery, the seaside town of Pornic lies just 50 km to the south-west, while the medieval city of Angers is roughly 90 km to the east along the Loire Valley. The flat terrain along the river makes driving a motorhome here straightforward, and the surrounding countryside offers plenty of space to breathe. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners in and around Nantes, giving you flexible pick-up options and genuine insider tips. It is an ideal base for discovering the Loire-Atlantique region at your own pace by campervan.

Best time to visit

Nantes enjoys a mild oceanic climate that suits campervan travel from spring right through to autumn. June to September brings the warmest weather and the liveliest calendar, including Le Voyage à Nantes festival running each summer with open-air art across the city. In late August, the Rendez-vous de l'Erdre combines jazz performances with a heritage boat gathering along the river. Book your Yescapa hire early for July and August, the most popular months, to secure the best choice from local owners. Spring and early autumn in Nantes offer quieter roads and comfortable temperatures for exploring the Loire estuary at a relaxed pace.

Where to park your motorhome

Grazie mille Lorenzo! Alla prossima :)

We travelled through Portugal for two weeks with our family of five. The camper has everything you need, and the air conditioning was a huge plus during the summer. Marcelino always responded quickly and was very helpful whenever we had a question. We had a fantastic trip and highly recommend this camper!

Kevin was so helpful helping John and I embark on our first campervan journey with our dogs travelling the length of France in his lovely converted Boxer van we have all come to love as ''Olive''. The first trip of many our experience was overwhelmingly good. So many amazing places to stop at and amazing views from Blue Lakes , Vast Gorges and amazing views from High Mountain Passes, Olive got us there ! Then when we were all parked up she offered us such a lovely comfy place to spend the night. With mosquito nets and an ambient cooling system in the cab, we took some fans to cope with the ' above 40 degree at times, temperatures but the dogs and us were absolutely fine.. Olive's solar powered appliances really do work all day and through the night. Kevin was an amazing host - even though we 'lost ' his fuel tank cap! Don't ask us how! Id thoroughly recommend Olive to anyone . She is a lovely van and Kevin a great host.
