Nantes sits at the confluence of the Loire and Erdre rivers, a city where a mechanical elephant roams the former shipyards of Île de Nantes as part of Les Machines de l'Île, an art project unlike anything else in Europe. Once the capital of the Duchy of Brittany, Nantes blends centuries of history with bold contemporary culture. Explore the Château des Ducs de Bretagne, a 15th-century fortress housing the Nantes History Museum, then stroll through the Jardin des Plantes, home to over 10,000 plant species across 7 hectares. Art lovers can follow Le Voyage à Nantes, a trail of permanent and temporary installations winding through the city centre and beyond. The Passage Pommeraye, a 19th-century shopping arcade with ornate staircases and sculpted figures, is well worth a visit. For a change of scenery, the seaside town of Pornic lies just 50 km to the south-west, while the medieval city of Angers is roughly 90 km to the east along the Loire Valley. The flat terrain along the river makes driving a motorhome here straightforward, and the surrounding countryside offers plenty of space to breathe. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners in and around Nantes, giving you flexible pick-up options and genuine insider tips. It is an ideal base for discovering the Loire-Atlantique region at your own pace by campervan.
Nantes enjoys a mild oceanic climate that suits campervan travel from spring right through to autumn. June to September brings the warmest weather and the liveliest calendar, including Le Voyage à Nantes festival running each summer with open-air art across the city. In late August, the Rendez-vous de l'Erdre combines jazz performances with a heritage boat gathering along the river. Book your Yescapa hire early for July and August, the most popular months, to secure the best choice from local owners. Spring and early autumn in Nantes offer quieter roads and comfortable temperatures for exploring the Loire estuary at a relaxed pace.

The Nantes area offers a good mix of urban and countryside campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. In the city itself you will find sites with electric hook-ups and service points, while the surrounding towns provide quieter pitches with more green space. Many sites near Nantes include showers, toilets, Wi-Fi, and dedicated motorhome service areas, making it easy to recharge between adventures along the Loire.
Nantes provides several Park and Ride (P+R) facilities on the outskirts connected to the tramway, which are practical for larger vehicles. Overnight parking in a motorhome or campervan is not permitted in standard city-centre car parks, so plan to use dedicated aires or campsites instead. Height barriers apply in most underground car parks, so stick to open-air options. Always check signage for vehicle length and weight limits before parking.
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
