Why choose Vienna for your road trip

Vienna — a city worth exploring

Vienna's Ringstrasse, a grand boulevard completed in 1865, loops 5.3 km around the historic centre and connects many of the city's most celebrated landmarks. Strolling or cycling this route, you pass the Wiener Staatsoper, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the imposing Rathaus. Beyond the Ring, the sprawling grounds of Schönbrunn Palace offer formal gardens, a maze, and Europe's oldest zoo, the Tiergarten Schönbrunn, founded in 1752. For contemporary culture, head to the MuseumsQuartier, one of the largest art complexes in the world, housing the Leopold Museum and mumok. Food lovers can wander the stalls of Naschmarkt, where vendors have traded spices, cheese, and fresh produce since the 16th century. Bratislava sits just 65 km to the east, making it an easy cross-border day trip, while the Wachau Valley begins roughly 80 km to the west, with terraced vineyards lining the Danube. Vienna's flat terrain and well-maintained roads make it straightforward to navigate in a larger vehicle, and the Danube cycle path running through the city doubles as a handy orientation line. With Yescapa, you hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in Vienna, which means flexible pick-up points across the city and first-hand tips on where to park and what to see.

Best time to visit

Vienna is wonderful from April through October. The Wiener Festwochen, a major performing-arts festival, runs through May and June, filling theatres and open-air stages across the city. In December, Christmas markets such as the Christkindlmarkt at Rathausplatz draw visitors from across Europe. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan on Yescapa a few weeks ahead helps you secure the best choice and price from local owners. Spring and early autumn bring comfortable driving weather and quieter campsites along the Danube, ideal for a relaxed motorhome trip.

  • P+R Leopoldau, 12km north — Found in the north of Vienna at the U1 terminus. Offers affordable daily rates and easy access to the Danube Island recreational area.

Kevin was so helpful helping John and I embark on our first campervan journey with our dogs travelling the length of France in his lovely converted Boxer van we have all come to love as ''Olive''. The first trip of many our experience was overwhelmingly good. So many amazing places to stop at and amazing views from Blue Lakes , Vast Gorges and amazing views from High Mountain Passes, Olive got us there ! Then when we were all parked up she offered us such a lovely comfy place to spend the night. With mosquito nets and an ambient cooling system in the cab, we took some fans to cope with the ' above 40 degree at times, temperatures but the dogs and us were absolutely fine.. Olive's solar powered appliances really do work all day and through the night. Kevin was an amazing host - even though we 'lost ' his fuel tank cap! Don't ask us how! Id thoroughly recommend Olive to anyone . She is a lovely van and Kevin a great host.

Miguel was the perfect person to rent a camper van from. The van had everything you could wish for. He was kind, extremely helpful and the test drive I requested really assisted me. . All the paperwork and communication was highly efficient and very fair. No issues at all. As a single female in my 60s I could not recommend a better person.

My partner and I have been on van trips before, but only borrowing friend's vans in the UK. This was our first time renting a van abroad, first time using Yescapa and first time exploring the Picos de Europa. Overall it was a super smooth experience and enabled us to have one of the best holidays ever - so we would fully recommend! Firstly, the booking experience. We were visiting during the eclipse and so we were wary that everything was getting booked up. We stumbled upon Yescapa and this van, then the booking experience was pretty simple so it kind of felt too good to be true. Picking up the van was a doddle, with all the instructions sent clearly over WhatsApp. This meant we felt comfortable hitting the ground running. Secondly, the van was absolutely perfect for our holiday. The shower out the back was perfect for cooling down and cleaning off after runs. The camp stove worked great for making porridge in the morning, and we were grateful for the included chairs - especially when it came to watching the eclipse. We found that the fridge tended to heat the cabin when it was running which meant it worked quite well for helping control the temperature i.e. we'd leave the fridge running if there was a cold night due. Finally, thank you to Safira the host for letting us use the van for our wonderful trip. She was very quick to respond to any questions, and super lovely in helping us out during pick-up and drop-off.

We had a lovely few days in France in the motorhome. We picked up about 30 minutes from Calais which was very convenient for the ferry. The van had everything we needed and we had a great time visiting the Normandy beaches and D day sites.

We had the best experience with this campervan and were so sad when it was time to hand it back! We had it for 3 nights during peak summer at a really reasonable price, and it was absolutely perfect for our little adventure. The host was fantastic and always replied incredibly quickly whenever we had a question. The van itself had everything we could possibly need and more. You can really tell that the owner has thought about all the little details — from salt and pepper, coffee and tea, to plenty of kitchenware and even a coffee machine! The bed was super comfortable and really easy to assemble, and the fan worked brilliantly, which was definitely appreciated during the summer heat. We honestly loved every minute of van life and were genuinely sad to leave. Thank you for helping make our trip so special — we would definitely recommend this campervan to anyone looking for an amazing adventure!
