From sleek A-class models to versatile coachbuilts and low-profiles, there’s a motorhome for every adventure—whether you need a compact getaway for two or a spacious multi-berth for the whole family.
The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Rome's Colosseum, completed in AD 80, once held up to 80,000 spectators and remains the largest standing amphitheatre in the world. Today the city layers nearly three millennia of history across its seven hills, from the Roman Forum and the Pantheon to the Baroque splendour of the Trevi Fountain and Piazza Navona. Vatican City, an independent state entirely within Rome, is home to St Peter's Basilica and the Sistine Chapel, drawing visitors from every corner of the globe. Beyond the ancient centre, neighbourhoods such as Trastevere and Testaccio offer lively food markets, trattorias and a genuine local atmosphere that rewards slow exploration. Rome also makes an excellent base for wider travels: the coastal town of Ostia Antica sits just 30 km south-west, while the hilltop city of Orvieto is roughly 130 km to the north. Flat terrain along the Tiber valley and well-maintained motorways heading in every direction make driving a motorhome out of the city straightforward, though the historic centre itself has a restricted traffic zone (ZTL) to keep in mind. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners who know the best routes, overnight spots and seasonal tips for the region. That peer-to-peer approach means competitive prices and a personal touch you simply will not find elsewhere. Whether you plan to circle the Lazio countryside or head further afield, picking up a campervan in Rome puts centuries of culture right at your doorstep.
Rome is wonderful year-round, though spring and early autumn are especially pleasant for touring by campervan. April brings the Natale di Roma celebrations on the 21st, marking the city's founding with parades and re-enactments. In October, the Roma Europa Festival fills theatres and open-air venues across the capital. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your motorhome on Yescapa early gives you the widest choice and the best peer-to-peer rates. Mild winters mean you can still enjoy Rome's piazzas and trattorias without the queues, making it a smart pick for off-peak hire.
Rome is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 30 km south-west from Rome to explore the remarkably preserved ruins of Ostia Antica, once the city's main harbour. Wander the ancient theatre and the Piazzale delle Corporazioni before continuing to the Lido di Ostia seafront for a coastal stroll. Campervan parking is available near the archaeological site entrance.
Drive 130 km south-east from Rome along the Via Pontina to reach Sperlonga, a whitewashed village perched above the Tyrrhenian Sea. Visit the Grotta di Tiberio and the National Archaeological Museum, then relax on the sandy beaches below. Several campsites along the coast offer full hook-ups and sea views for your campervan.
Travel 130 km north from Rome on the A1 motorway to Orvieto, a dramatic hilltop town in Umbria. The Cathedral of Orvieto dazzles with its Gothic façade, while the underground tunnels of Orvieto Sotterranea reveal Etruscan history. Motorhome parking is well signposted at the base of the cliff near the funicular station.
Set off 185 km north-east from Rome into the Apennines to reach Abruzzo, Lazio e Molise National Park. Spot Marsican brown bears and Apennine wolves around Pescasseroli, then hike the trails of the Camosciara valley. Designated motorhome areas in Villetta Barrea provide electricity and fresh water for longer stays.
Cover 275 km north from Rome via the A1 to Florence, birthplace of the Renaissance. Admire Botticelli's works in the Uffizi Gallery and climb Brunelleschi's Dome at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Plan stops in Orvieto or Montepulciano along the way. Campervan aires on the city outskirts offer shuttle links to the centre.
Journey 280 km south-east from Rome to the Amalfi Coast, winding along the SS163 past Positano and Amalfi to Ravello's clifftop gardens. Stop in Pompeii en route to walk the excavated streets. The road is narrow in places, so a compact campervan is ideal. Book pitches at campsites near Sorrento for easy coastal access.

Rome and its surroundings offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Within the city limits you will find well-equipped sites with electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks and Wi-Fi, many connected to the centre by public transport. Further out, sites in the Lazio countryside provide larger pitches, swimming pools and a quieter setting for families or longer stays.
Rome operates a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) in the historic centre, so larger vehicles should stay outside this area. Dedicated car parks on the city fringe often accept motorhomes and campervans, and many sit beside metro or tram stops for easy access. Overnight parking in public spaces is generally permitted unless signs state otherwise, but always check height barriers before entering underground facilities.
