Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Nevada

Nevada — a region worth exploring

Nevada's Extraterrestrial Highway (State Route 375) stretches 158 km through the desert near Area 51, making it one of the most unusual driving experiences in the United States. From the neon-lit energy of Las Vegas to the ancient bristlecone pines of Great Basin National Park, this state packs an extraordinary range of landscapes into its borders. The drive from Las Vegas to Reno covers roughly 680 km, passing through vast basin-and-range terrain shaped by dramatic fault lines and dry lake beds. Along the way, you can explore the towering sandstone formations of Valley of Fire State Park, the eerie limestone spires of Cathedral Gorge, and the turquoise waters of Lake Tahoe on the western border. Nevada's wide-open roads and generous overnight parking rules make it particularly well suited to campervan and motorhome travel — many Bureau of Land Management areas allow free dispersed camping, giving you the freedom to stop wherever the landscape calls. The state's long, straight highways are easy to navigate in larger vehicles, though mountain passes like those on US Route 50 add welcome variety. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners across Nevada, choosing from a range of vehicles to match your group size and travel style. It is a practical, peer-to-peer way to explore a state where the next town might be 160 km away and the sky feels endless.

Best time to visit

Spring and autumn are ideal for a campervan trip through Nevada, with comfortable temperatures for exploring desert parks and open roads. The Burning Man festival draws visitors to the Black Rock Desert each late August, while the Reno Balloon Races light up the sky every September. Summer is perfect for Lake Tahoe and the higher elevations of Great Basin National Park, where campsite availability is excellent. Winter brings snow to the Sierra Nevada passes, so plan routes accordingly. With Yescapa's peer-to-peer model, you can often find better hire rates during quieter months, and booking ahead for the popular May-to-October window helps secure the best choice of vehicles.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Nevada

Nevada's interstate highways, including I-15 and I-80, are toll-free, so you can travel the state without worrying about road charges. Speed limits on rural interstates are typically 80 mph (around 130 km/h) for cars, but motorhomes and larger vehicles over 10,000 lbs are generally limited to 70 mph. Many of Nevada's state routes are two-lane roads through remote desert, so carry extra water and fuel. Rest areas are spaced along major corridors, though they become scarce on routes like US-50 and SR-375. Always check mountain pass conditions in winter, particularly on I-80 near the Sierra Nevada.

We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!

Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.

Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.

We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
