Why choose Naples for your road trip

Naples — a city worth exploring

Naples sits at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, the only active volcano on mainland Europe, making it one of the most dramatically positioned cities in the Mediterranean. The historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1995, stretches across nearly 1,700 hectares of layered history. Wander through Spaccanapoli, the arrow-straight street that splits the old town in two, and you will find churches, workshops and pizzerias stacked side by side. The Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Napoli houses one of the world's finest collections of Greco-Roman artefacts, while the Palazzo Reale di Napoli on Piazza del Plebiscito offers a grand window into Bourbon-era royalty. For coastal scenery, the Lungomare Caracciolo promenade runs along the waterfront with views across the Bay of Naples to Capri. Sorrento is roughly 50 km to the south-east, and the ancient ruins of Pompeii lie just 26 km away — both are easy day trips by campervan. The surrounding Campania region rewards those who explore at their own pace: volcanic craters at Campi Flegrei, hilltop vineyards on the slopes of Vesuvius, and winding coastal roads along the Amalfi Coast. Hiring a motorhome through Yescapa connects you directly with local owners in Naples, so you benefit from personal tips on where to park, which routes to take and what to see. A campervan gives you the flexibility to combine city culture with coastal escapes, all from one base.

Best time to visit

Naples enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate that suits campervan travel for much of the year. Spring, from April to June, is ideal for exploring the city and nearby coast before the busiest weeks arrive. The Maggio dei Monumenti festival in May opens historic palaces and churches not usually accessible to the public. Summer is the most popular season, so booking your hire early on Yescapa helps you secure the best choice from local owners. September and October bring warm days, quieter campsites and the grape harvest across Campania. Even winter has its charm — Naples hosts one of Italy's finest Christmas markets along Via San Gregorio Armeno, famous for its handcrafted nativity scenes.

Where to park your motorhome

Parking a larger vehicle in central Naples requires some planning. The city operates a ZTL (limited traffic zone) in the historic centre, so check active hours before entering. Several large car parks on the outskirts accept motorhomes and campervans and connect to the metro or bus network. Overnight parking in public areas is generally permitted unless signs state otherwise, but dedicated service areas outside the centre are a more comfortable option.

  • Parcheggio Brin, 2km east — Large multi-storey car park near the port area with spaces suitable for higher vehicles. Well connected to metro Line 1 for quick access to the city centre.
  • Parcheggio Via Brin – Metropark, 2km east — Managed parking facility adjacent to Piazza Garibaldi and Napoli Centrale station. Offers good clearance for larger vehicles and 24-hour surveillance.
  • Parcheggio Colli Aminei, 5km north — Open-air car park in the northern residential district of Colli Aminei. Close to a metro stop on Line 1, making it a practical park-and-ride option for campervans.

What our users say about our campervans and motorhomes in Naples

Absolutely loved staying in Alfreds campervan. The decor was beautiful. It had everything we needed, a perfect space for two people for time in nature travelling. It was so good having a fridge on the road. He answered any questions I had and the pick up/ drop off was great. Would definitely love to rent it again in the future when we come back to Spain. Thank you!

Communication with Guillaume the owner was excellent. Always available to answer questions and give advice about travel destinations. The campervan was a perfect size for our first experience of this type of holiday. We used sites for our 7 night travel experience which worked well with electric/topping up water etc. Overall a great experience and would use this owner again.

Everything went smooth during the whole pick up and return process. The van has seen some life but everything was clean and in great working condition + the price was very competitive when comparing to anything else available at the time. Very enjoyable trip with the van, highly recommended
