Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Munich Airport

Munich Airport — a region worth exploring

München Airport, officially known as Flughafen München Franz Josef Strauß, handles over 47 million passengers annually and sits 28 km north-east of Munich's city centre in the Erdinger Moos wetland plain. As Bavaria's main international gateway, it connects you to more than 250 destinations worldwide, making it an ideal starting point for a campervan or motorhome adventure across southern Germany. From the airport, the A92 motorway takes you directly into Munich in roughly 35 minutes, while the Bavarian Alps around Garmisch-Partenkirchen lie just 120 km to the south. Head east and you can reach Berchtesgaden National Park within 165 km, passing through rolling farmland and forested foothills. The region surrounding the airport is remarkably flat, so navigating a larger vehicle out of the area is straightforward before the terrain shifts towards alpine passes and lakeside roads further south. Neuschwanstein Castle, the Romantic Road, and the shores of Lake Starnberg are all within easy reach for a first-day drive. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners based in and around Munich, giving you a wide choice of vehicles at peer-to-peer prices. Whether you plan to explore the city's beer gardens or set off towards the Austrian border, picking up near München Airport puts you right where the journey begins.

Best time to visit

May to October is the prime window for hiring a campervan near München Airport. The Starkbierfest in March kicks off the festival calendar, but it is the world-famous Oktoberfest, running from mid-September into early October, that draws millions to Munich. Summer months bring long daylight hours and open alpine passes, ideal for motorhome touring through Bavaria. Campsites across the region operate at full capacity from June to August, so booking your Yescapa vehicle early secures better peer-to-peer rates. Shoulder months like May and September offer pleasant touring weather with fewer crowds on popular routes such as the Romantic Road.
