Why choose Dijon for your road trip

Dijon — a city worth exploring

Dijon's historic centre, inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015 as part of the Climats de Bourgogne, stretches across a compact area packed with over 130 half-timbered houses dating from the medieval period. Begin at the Palais des Ducs et des États de Bourgogne, once home to the powerful Dukes of Burgundy and now housing the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, one of France's oldest public art museums. A short stroll takes you to the Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne, whose 11th-century Romanesque crypt is among the finest in Europe. Food lovers can explore Les Halles de Dijon, a covered market designed by Gustave Eiffel's firm, brimming with regional cheeses, mustard and charcuterie every Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Beaune, the wine capital of Burgundy, sits just 44 km to the south, while the Lac de Settons in the Morvan Regional Natural Park is roughly 130 km to the west — both make superb day trips in a campervan. Dijon's position at the crossroads of the A31 and A39 motorways means you can head in any direction with ease, and the surrounding countryside offers wide, well-maintained roads ideal for larger vehicles. With Yescapa, you hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners in and around Dijon, which means flexible pick-up points, personal tips on the best Burgundy routes and peer-to-peer pricing that keeps your budget in check.

Best time to visit

Dijon comes alive in late June during the Fête de la Musique, with free concerts filling the city's squares, while November's Foire Internationale et Gastronomique de Dijon celebrates Burgundian food and wine over eleven days. Summer is the busiest season for touring the vineyards, so booking your campervan early through Yescapa gives you the widest choice of vehicles from local owners. Spring and early autumn are ideal for quieter roads and comfortable driving conditions around Dijon. Peer-to-peer hire on Yescapa often means more competitive rates outside peak months.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
