Catania sits at the foot of Mount Etna, Europe's tallest active volcano at 3,357 metres, making it one of the most dramatically positioned cities in the Mediterranean. The city's historic centre, rebuilt in Baroque style after the devastating 1693 earthquake, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Stroll through Piazza del Duomo to admire the Fontana dell'Elefante, Catania's beloved lava-stone elephant sculpture, before exploring the Cathedral of Sant'Agata with its striking Norman apses. The Ursino Castle, built by Frederick II in the 13th century, now houses the Civic Museum with its impressive archaeological collection. For a taste of everyday Catania life, head to La Pescheria, the open-air fish market that fills the streets near the port each morning. Taormina is just 52 km to the north, while Syracuse lies 66 km to the south — both are easy day trips by campervan along the coastal roads. The terrain around Catania ranges from black-sand beaches at La Playa to the winding mountain roads climbing Etna's slopes, so having your own vehicle gives you real flexibility. With Yescapa, you hire a motorhome or campervan directly from local owners in the Catania area, which means you can pick up your vehicle close to where you need it and get personalised tips from someone who knows the region well.
Catania enjoys a long travel season from April through to October. The Festa di Sant'Agata in early February is one of Italy's largest religious festivals, drawing huge crowds to the city centre. Summer brings the Catania Jazz Festival in July and warm evenings perfect for exploring by campervan. Spring and autumn are ideal for driving up Mount Etna without the peak-season bustle. With Yescapa, you can often find better hire rates outside July and August, thanks to flexible pricing set by local owners. Book ahead for summer to secure the best choice of vehicles in Catania.

The Catania coastline offers a good selection of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites along the Ionian coast provide electric hook-ups, fresh water, waste disposal points, showers and toilets. Several are right by the sea, giving you direct beach access. If you prefer a quieter setting, look for sites a little further from Catania towards Acireale or south towards Syracuse, where pitches tend to be more spacious and surrounded by citrus groves.
Parking a larger vehicle in Catania's city centre can be tricky, as many streets in the historic quarter are narrow and have restricted traffic zones (ZTL). Look for designated parking areas on the outskirts and use public transport or walk into the centre. Overnight parking in non-designated areas is generally not permitted, so plan ahead. Several facilities around the city cater to larger vehicles.
Easy to hire great communication
It was great, if only too short. I should have paid extra to leave van back later, as it was our first trip in a van and time got ahead of us.
Todo perfecto 💯
The vehicle was excellent in every way. Roomy, efficient, drove well, everything worked. We had a great trip. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
First time hiring through Yescampa and Victor made it super easy. We navigated the language barrier with Google translate and he was very helpful explaining how to use all features of the vehicle. For a family of four exploring andulicua this was ideal.
The trip was amazing. Francesca, the owner, helped us a lot and was always available. The van was really good, with big space inside. Highly recommended.
