Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Canton of Zurich

Canton of Zurich — a region worth exploring

The Canton of Zürich sits at the heart of northern Switzerland, where the River Limmat flows from Lake Zürich through the country's largest city before joining the Aare further west. Covering roughly 1,729 square kilometres, the canton blends urban energy with rolling green hills, vineyards along the Zürichsee, and forested ridges such as the Albis chain and the Pfannenstiel. From Zürich city centre to the medieval town of Winterthur is just 30 km, making it easy to combine culture and countryside in a single trip. Head south-east and within 40 km you reach Rapperswil-Jona, often called the "town of roses," perched on the upper lakeshore. Nature lovers can explore the Greifensee nature reserve, a protected wetland circling a glacial lake, while history enthusiasts will enjoy Kyburg Castle, a remarkably well-preserved fortress dating back to the 11th century. The canton's compact size and well-maintained roads make it ideal for campervan travel — you can loop the entire lake, pause at vineyard villages like Stäfa and Männedorf, and still be back in the city for the evening. With Yescapa, you hire your motorhome or campervan directly from local owners across the Canton of Zürich, giving you flexibility to pick up a vehicle close to where your adventure begins. Whether you want a weekend escape around the lake or a longer tour connecting Zürich with the Rhine Falls to the north, the canton rewards those who travel at their own pace.

Best time to visit

The Canton of Zürich is wonderful from late spring through to autumn. May and June bring warm days and the famous Zürich Festival (Festspiele Zürich), running through June and July with opera, theatre, and concerts across the city. September is harvest season in the canton's wine villages, and the Knabenschiessen festival in mid-September draws crowds with its fairground and traditions. Campsites around Lake Zürich and Greifensee are open from April to October, with the best availability in shoulder months. Through Yescapa, you can often find better campervan hire rates outside the July–August peak, when local owners offer competitive pricing on the peer-to-peer platform.
