Braga's Bom Jesus do Monte sanctuary, with its monumental baroque stairway of 577 steps, has drawn pilgrims and travellers since the eighteenth century and earned UNESCO World Heritage status in 2019. As one of the oldest cities on the Iberian Peninsula, Braga blends ancient history with a lively university atmosphere. Wander through the Sé de Braga, Portugal's oldest cathedral, founded in 1070, then explore the Jardim de Santa Bárbara, a formal garden framed by the medieval arches of the former Archbishop's Palace. The Museu dos Biscainhos showcases decorative arts inside a seventeenth-century manor house, while the Theatro Circo, restored to its 1915 grandeur, hosts concerts and performances year-round. Guimarães, the birthplace of Portugal, sits just 25 km to the south-east, and the Peneda-Gerês National Park begins roughly 45 km to the north-east, offering mountain lakes and granite peaks ideal for longer excursions. The Minho region's gentle hills and well-maintained roads make it comfortable territory for larger vehicles, and Braga itself provides a practical base with good access to the A3 and A11 motorways. With Yescapa, you hire a campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in Braga, which means personal tips on the best routes, flexible pick-up arrangements, and peer-to-peer pricing that suits a range of budgets.
Braga is rewarding in every season. Semana Santa (Holy Week) in March or April fills the city with candlelit processions and centuries-old traditions — book your campervan early, as it is the busiest period. The São João de Braga festival in late June brings fireworks, street music, and a lively fairground atmosphere. Summer offers long, warm days for exploring the nearby Peneda-Gerês National Park, while autumn and winter bring quieter roads and mild conditions for touring the Minho countryside. Through Yescapa, you benefit from peer-to-peer pricing, so hiring a motorhome outside peak months can be especially good value.
Braga is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 55 km west from Braga to the coastal city of Viana do Castelo. Stop at the Santuário de Santa Luzia for panoramic views, then visit the Gil Eannes hospital ship moored in the harbour. Campervan parking is available along the waterfront, and the nearby Praia do Cabedelo is perfect for a beach day.
Drive 120 km north-east from Braga into Portugal's only national park. Explore the Cascata do Arado waterfall and the Roman road of Geira near Mata da Albergaria. Several campsites with full hook-ups sit around the Caniçada reservoir, making this a comfortable 3- to 6-day motorhome trip.
Follow the Minho river 150 km north from Braga to the fortress town of Valença, perched above the Spanish border. Call in at Ponte de Lima, one of Portugal's oldest towns, and sample vinho verde along the way. Designated motorhome service areas dot the route for easy overnight stops.
Just 25 km south-east of Braga, Guimarães is the birthplace of Portugal. Visit the Paço dos Duques de Bragança and the hilltop Castelo de Guimarães. Compact campervans are ideal here — the historic centre has narrow streets, but a large car park near the Multiusos arena accommodates bigger vehicles.
Cover 200 km south from Braga to Porto, then trace the Atlantic coastline. In Porto, explore the Ribeira district and Livraria Lello. Continue to the surf beaches of Espinho and the lagoon at Aveiro. Allow 5 to 8 days and use campervan-friendly aires along the coast for overnight stays.
Travel 280 km north-east from Braga into the remote Trás-os-Montes region. Bragança's medieval citadel and the Montesinho Natural Park reward the journey. Roads are well surfaced but winding, so take your time. Stock up on supplies in Chaves, roughly halfway, where thermal springs offer a relaxing break.

The area around Braga offers a good mix of countryside and mountain campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Within the city you will find a municipal site, while the Gerês mountains and the Lima valley host scenic options just a short drive away — ideal if you prefer a quieter, nature-focused setting for your stay.
Braga has a dedicated motorhome service area with water, waste disposal, and free overnight parking, making it a convenient first stop. Street parking in the historic centre is limited for larger vehicles, so use the peripheral car parks near the stadium or the Rodovia commercial area. Overnight stays in standard car parks are generally tolerated if you remain self-contained, but always check local signage. Plan arrivals before midday on weekdays to secure a space close to the centre.
Muchas gracias. Gary y Michelle
Lovely experience and fantastic van. Clean and worked very well. Leonardo and Eleanora were very friendly and helpful. One small feedback is the fridge did not work very well but otherwise its a great van.
Muy buena experiencia. Ana nos ha tratado muy bien.
Proprietários espetaculares e super atenciosos. Autocaravana estava impecável, super confortável, excelente condução. Painéis solares dão autonomia total. Tudo impecável.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.
