Why choose Bonn for your road trip

Bonn — a city worth exploring

Bonn's Beethoven-Haus, birthplace of Ludwig van Beethoven in 1770, still stands at Bonngasse 20 and welcomes thousands of music lovers each year. Once the capital of West Germany, this compact Rhine-side city blends political history with cultural depth in a way few places can match. Stroll through the Bundesviertel to see the former parliament buildings, then head to the Kunstmuseum Bonn for one of Germany's finest collections of post-war art. The Poppelsdorfer Schloss and its botanical gardens offer a peaceful retreat just south of the city centre, while the Rheinaue Park stretches along the riverbank for leisurely walks and cycling. Cologne is only 30 km to the north, and the dramatic Rhine Gorge begins around 65 km to the south near Koblenz, making Bonn an ideal base for exploring the wider region. The roads along the Rhine are well-suited to larger vehicles, with gentle gradients and clearly signed routes through the Siebengebirge hills on the eastern bank. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in and around Bonn, which means flexible pick-up points and genuine insider tips on where to park, eat, and explore. Whether you are planning a weekend city break or a longer Rhine Valley adventure, a campervan gives you the freedom to set your own pace.

Best time to visit

Bonn is a rewarding destination throughout the year. The Beethovenfest, held each September, fills the city with world-class concerts and draws visitors from across Europe. In spring, the famous cherry blossom season along Heerstraße in the Altstadt turns the street into a canopy of pink — typically peaking in mid-April. Summer is the busiest period for campervan travel, so booking your Yescapa hire early ensures the best choice of vehicles. Autumn brings quieter roads and golden colours along the Rhine, ideal for a relaxed motorhome tour. Even winter has its charm, with Bonn's Christmas market lighting up the Münsterplatz from late November.

We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!

We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.

We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
