Belfast International Airport, located just 21 km northwest of Belfast city centre near the town of Aldergrove in County Antrim, handles over five million passengers each year and serves as Northern Ireland's busiest airport. From here, the legendary Causeway Coastal Route stretches 195 km along the Antrim coast to Londonderry, passing the Giant's Causeway, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and the Dark Hedges — a beech tree avenue made famous by its appearance in Game of Thrones. Heading south, the Mourne Mountains sit roughly 80 km from the airport, offering dramatic peaks and forest parks ideal for overnight stops in a campervan. The shores of Lough Neagh, the largest freshwater lake in the British Isles, lie just 10 km to the east, while the historic walled city of Londonderry is approximately 115 km to the northwest. Northern Ireland's compact size makes it remarkably easy to explore by motorhome — you can reach almost any corner within a couple of hours. Belfast itself offers the Titanic Quarter, St George's Market, and the Cathedral Quarter for a memorable first or last night of your trip. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners based in and around Belfast, choosing from a range of vehicles to suit your group size and travel style. It is a practical, personal way to begin your Northern Ireland adventure right from the airport doorstep.
May to September is the prime window for a campervan trip from Belfast International Airport, with long daylight hours stretching past 10 pm in midsummer. The Belfast International Arts Festival runs each October, offering a cultural reason to extend the season. Spring brings wildflower displays along the Causeway coast, while autumn colours transform the Mourne Mountains. Campsites across Northern Ireland are generally open from Easter through to October, so booking through Yescapa during shoulder months like May or September often means quieter roads and more competitive hire prices from local owners.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
Drive 195 km from Belfast to Londonderry along Northern Ireland's celebrated Antrim coast. Stop at the Giant's Causeway, cross Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, and wander through Ballycastle. Campervan-friendly stops with sea views dot the route.
Loop 150 km through County Down, taking in Tollymore Forest Park and the Silent Valley Reservoir. Newcastle makes a great base for hill walks. The route suits compact campervans on narrower mountain roads.
Cover 320 km through County Fermanagh's lake district, visiting Enniskillen Castle and the Marble Arch Caves. Circle Lough Erne's islands and cross into the Cuilcagh Boardwalk trail. Motorhome pitches are plentiful near the lakeshores.
A 400 km circuit from Belfast taking in the Glens of Antrim, the north coast, Londonderry's city walls, the Sperrins, and back via Lough Neagh. Ideal in a motorhome with plenty of overnight options across Northern Ireland.
Wind through nine green glens over 220 km from Larne to Ballycastle. Visit Glenariff Forest Park's waterfalls and Cushendall village. The roads suit a campervan, with scenic laybys for breaks along the coast.
Head 550 km from Belfast through Donegal's Wild Atlantic coastline, visiting Malin Head, Slieve League cliffs, and Glenveagh National Park. Return via Enniskillen. A longer campervan journey blending two regions beautifully.

Northern Ireland offers a fine spread of campsites, from coastal pitches overlooking the Atlantic to peaceful inland spots beside lakes and forests. Many sites provide electric hook-ups, hardstanding pitches, modern shower blocks, and waste disposal points suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you want to wake up to sea air on the Causeway coast or settle beside the tranquil waters of Lough Erne, you will find well-maintained facilities across the region.
Northern Ireland has no motorway tolls, so you can travel freely on the M1, M2, and M22 without charge. Speed limits for motorhomes under 3,500 kg match standard car limits — 70 mph on motorways, 60 mph on single carriageways, and 30 mph in built-up areas. Vehicles over 3,500 kg are limited to 60 mph on motorways and 50 mph on single carriageways. The A26 dual carriageway connects Ballymena to the Causeway coast, while many rural roads in Antrim and Down are narrow single-track lanes — take your time and use passing places. Rest areas with parking suitable for larger vehicles are available along the main motorway routes.
We hired the van for 8 nights and it was perfect. Went up to the mountains and down to the beach. It was very spacious and well kitted out. The owners are also lovely, accommodating and quick to reply to our message
Both Jesus and Susana were very communicative and made the rental process very easy. The van is basically new in very good condition and easy to handle. It was fun cooking in remote places having a beautiful view and having a large fridge really helped to keep all cool and fresh. We had a nice time with it and would certainly recommend it to others.
