The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
Bastia's Place Saint-Nicolas stretches nearly 300 metres along the seafront, making it one of the largest squares in France. This port city on Corsica's northeastern tip blends Italian-influenced architecture with a distinctly French island character. The old harbour, known as the Vieux Port, is lined with colourful buildings and traditional restaurants, while the Citadelle above houses the Musée de Bastia, tracing the city's history from Genoese rule to the present day. The twin-towered Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste dominates the harbour skyline and is the largest church in Corsica. Inland, the hilltop village of Cardo offers panoramic views across the Tyrrhenian Sea. Bastia also serves as a gateway to Cap Corse, the narrow peninsula stretching 40 km to the north, and to the Désert des Agriates, roughly 60 km to the west. The surrounding roads wind through maquis-covered hills and along dramatic coastal stretches, so a campervan gives you the flexibility to stop wherever the scenery calls. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners in and around Bastia, which means you can collect your motorhome close to the ferry terminal and set off without delay. A campervan from a fellow traveller often comes with insider tips on the best routes and overnight spots across northern Corsica.
Bastia welcomes visitors from April through to October, with each month offering something different. In June, the city hosts Les Musicales de Bastia, a festival celebrating classical and world music across historic venues. September brings the Festiventu, a wind and adventure festival in nearby Calvi, easily reached by a coastal drive. Hiring a campervan through Yescapa during spring or early autumn means quieter roads around Cap Corse and more availability at campsites. Summer is the most popular season, so booking your motorhome early is a smart move. Bastia's mild autumn weather keeps conditions comfortable for driving well into November.
Bastia is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 80 km north from Bastia around the wild Cap Corse peninsula. Allow 2 to 4 days to explore the Genoese watchtowers at Nonza and the harbour village of Centuri. Roads are narrow and winding, so a compact campervan is ideal. Stop at Macinaggio for seaside parking and fresh seafood.
Drive 55 km south from Bastia into the chestnut forests of Castagniccia over 1 to 3 days. Visit the Baroque church of La Porta and the village of Piedicroce. The mountain roads suit a smaller campervan, and you will find quiet pull-offs for overnight stays among the valleys.
Cover 150 km south from Bastia to reach Corte, Corsica's historic capital, in 3 to 6 days. Hike the Restonica Gorges to Lac de Melo and explore the Citadelle de Corte. Motorhome parking is available at the edge of town, giving easy access to trails and the old quarter.
Travel 170 km south-west from Bastia to Porto over 4 to 6 days. The UNESCO-listed Calanques de Piana feature red granite formations above the sea. Stop in the Scala di Santa Regina gorge en route. Campervan-friendly parking areas sit near Porto's marina for easy coastal walks.
Journey 210 km south from Bastia to the clifftop fortress town of Bonifacio in 5 to 8 days. Pause at Porto-Vecchio's sandy beaches and the prehistoric site of Filitosa. Motorhome service points are well spaced along the eastern plain, making this a comfortable long-distance route.
Take the scenic 230 km west-coast route from Bastia to Ajaccio over 5 to 8 days. Pass through Calvi's Citadelle, the red cliffs of Scandola Nature Reserve, and the gulf of Sagone. Campsites with full hook-ups dot the coastline, so you can recharge between stretches of mountain driving.

The area around Bastia offers a good mix of coastal and inland campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites along the eastern plain provide spacious pitches with electrical hook-ups, water points, and modern shower and toilet blocks. Several are set right beside sandy beaches, giving you direct access to the sea. If you are travelling in a larger motorhome, look for sites south of Bastia on the Marana plain, where access roads and pitches tend to be wider.
Bastia has several car parks near the centre that can accommodate larger vehicles, though spaces for motorhomes are limited in the old town's narrow streets. Overnight parking in public areas is generally tolerated outside peak summer months, but always check local signage. For longer stays, consider a dedicated aire or campsite just outside the city. Arriving via the ferry terminal puts you within easy reach of the main parking areas.
We hired the van for 8 nights and it was perfect. Went up to the mountains and down to the beach. It was very spacious and well kitted out. The owners are also lovely, accommodating and quick to reply to our message
Both Jesus and Susana were very communicative and made the rental process very easy. The van is basically new in very good condition and easy to handle. It was fun cooking in remote places having a beautiful view and having a large fridge really helped to keep all cool and fresh. We had a nice time with it and would certainly recommend it to others.
