Why choose Bari for your road trip

Bari — a city worth exploring

Bari's Basilica di San Nicola has drawn pilgrims from across Europe since 1087, when sailors brought the relics of Saint Nicholas from Myra to this Adriatic port city. Today, the capital of Puglia blends centuries of history with a lively waterfront atmosphere. Wander through Bari Vecchia, the atmospheric old quarter where narrow lanes open onto small piazzas and locals make orecchiette pasta by hand on their doorsteps. Visit the Cattedrale di San Sabino, a striking example of Apulian Romanesque architecture, or explore the imposing Castello Normanno-Svevo, a fortress originally built by the Normans and later expanded by Frederick II. Along the lungomare, the Teatro Petruzzelli — one of Italy's largest privately owned opera houses — offers a cultural highlight. Beyond the city, the Puglian coastline stretches in both directions: Polignano a Mare sits just 33 km to the south-east, while the trulli houses of Alberobello are roughly 55 km south. The terrain around Bari is largely flat, making it easy to navigate by motorhome or campervan along well-maintained coastal and inland roads. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan directly from local owners in the Bari area, giving you flexible pick-up options and genuine insider tips for your Puglia road trip. It is a practical, community-driven way to set off and discover southern Italy at your own pace.

Best time to visit

Bari enjoys a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and mild winters, making it a year-round destination. The Festa di San Nicola in May fills the old town with processions, concerts and fireworks — a fantastic time to be parked up nearby. The Fiera del Levante trade fair each September brings energy to the city. Summer is the busiest season, so booking your campervan on Yescapa early helps you secure the best choice from local owners. Spring and autumn offer comfortable driving temperatures and quieter campsites along the Puglian coast, ideal for a relaxed motorhome tour through Bari and beyond.

A dedicated motorhome service area on the city outskirts offers water, waste disposal and electricity.

We rented this camper van for a two-week trip through the Alps and southern france, it was fantastic from start to finish. The van was reliable and easy to drive, even on the steep, winding alpine mountain roads. It also performed exceptionally well on the motorways, with cruise control making the longer journeys comfortable and stress-free. The layout was perfect for two people. The rear seating folds out to a bed and pop-top roof bed provided plenty of space and privacy when sleeping. During the day, the seating area and well-equipped kitchen made the van feel comfortable and practical, while the retractable awning was great for relaxing outside on warm evenings. The owners were incredibly friendly and welcoming. On arrival, they took the time to explain all the features of the van and made sure we were comfortable before setting off. The return process was just as easy and straightforward. Overall, this is a fantastic camper van owned by a lovely family. We had an amazing trip and would highly recommend both the van and its owners to anyone looking for a memorable campervan adventure. We would happily rent from them again in the future.

Incredibly easy- Hector was there to talk us through everything. He was happy to answer all of our questions and gave us excellent practical advice. We felt fully supported abd it gave us a real confidence boost when we took control of the camper. We had to contact Hector during out trip sbout the van and he was on hand and easy to engage with. Ditto with our drop off. We loved using the camper: it was confortable and easily accommodated our family of 5 (including two teenagers!). It was a wonderful way to explore the Basque Country and we would definitely be up for doing it again.

Tuvimos una gran semana con la furgo, yo y dos hijos adultos. El dueño Samu fue de mucha ayuda por mensajes de texto para extra preguntas mientras estuvimos fuera, y nos llevó a la estación después de devolver la furgo
