Sardinia's SS125 Orientale Sarda stretches 280 km along the island's eastern seaboard, linking Cagliari to Olbia through some of the most rewarding driving in the Mediterranean. The island itself covers nearly 24,000 square kilometres, making it Italy's second-largest and a destination that genuinely rewards slow travel. From the limestone pinnacles of the Supramonte massif to the pink-sand shores of Spiaggia Rosa on Budelli, Sardinia packs extraordinary variety into a single coastline. The drive from Alghero in the northwest to Villasimius in the southeast is roughly 320 km, crossing fertile plains, cork-oak forests and the wild interior of the Gennargentu National Park, where peaks rise above 1,800 metres. Along the way you can stop at the Nuraghe Su Nuraxi in Barumini, a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back 3,500 years, or wander the cobbled lanes of Castelsardo perched high above the Gulf of Asinara. Sardinia's roads are generally well maintained, though many coastal stretches are single carriageway, which makes a campervan an ideal way to travel at your own pace. Motorhome-friendly service areas dot the main routes, and wild camping spots along quieter beaches are part of the island's appeal. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across Sardinia, choosing from campervans and motorhomes that suit your group size, budget and itinerary — a flexible, peer-to-peer approach that puts you closer to the island from the moment you collect the keys.
May to October is the prime window for a campervan trip around Sardinia, with June and September offering warm seas and uncrowded roads. The Cavalcata Sarda festival in Sassari each May fills the streets with traditional costumes and horseback parades, while the Festa di Sant'Efisio procession from Cagliari to Nora in early May is one of Italy's largest religious celebrations. Book early for July and August — these are the most popular months, and Yescapa's peer-to-peer model gives you access to a wider choice of vehicles at competitive prices even in peak season. Spring wildflowers carpet the interior, and autumn brings grape harvests in the Cannonau wine country around Jerzu.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 120 km route follows the SP105 along Sardinia's dramatic northwest coast. From Alghero's Catalan old town, you wind past sheer cliffs and empty coves to the pastel-coloured riverside town of Bosa. Ideal for campervans — pull over at the Spanish watchtowers dotting the headlands.
A 180 km loop from Cagliari through Sardinia's southern shores. Stop at the dunes of Chia, the ancient ruins of Nora and the island of Sant'Antioco. Flat, easy roads suit any motorhome, and beachside campsites are plentiful between Pula and Villasimius.
Covering 350 km from Olbia south to Arbatax, this Sardinia route takes in the celebrity beaches of the Costa Smeralda and the wild Golfo di Orosei. A campervan lets you linger at Cala Luna and explore the mountain village of Dorgali at your own pace.
This 400 km circuit loops through northwest Sardinia from Sassari to Stintino's La Pelosa beach, south to Bosa and inland to the Nuraghe Santu Antine near Torralba. Allow time for the hilltop town of Castelsardo. Motorhomes and campervans both handle the well-surfaced roads comfortably.
A 550 km loop connecting Cagliari, Oristano, Alghero and Olbia, crossing Sardinia's interior via the Gennargentu foothills. You pass cork forests, Cannonau vineyards and the nuraghi of Barumini. Service areas along the SS131 keep your campervan topped up throughout.
At 600 km over 10 to 15 days, this route circles the entire Sardinia coastline and dips inland to Orgosolo's famous murals and the Tiscali nuragic village. Suited to a well-equipped motorhome, it covers every landscape the island offers — beaches, mountains and ancient ruins alike.

Sardinia's campsites spread from the white-sand bays of the north to the quieter coves of the south, with options for every style of trip. Most sites offer full hook-ups, dedicated motorhome pitches and modern shower blocks. Coastal campsites often sit within walking distance of the beach, while inland sites near the Gennargentu range give you a cooler base for hiking. Whether you arrive in a compact campervan or a larger motorhome, you will find level, serviced pitches and reliable facilities across the island.
Sardinia has no motorway tolls. The island's main dual carriageway, the SS131 Carlo Felice, runs 230 km from Cagliari to Sassari and is free to use. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3.5 tonnes are 80 km/h on main roads and 100 km/h on dual carriageways. Many coastal routes, such as the SP71 to Bosa and the SS125 along the east coast, are single-lane roads with tight bends — take your time and use lay-bys to let faster traffic pass. Fuel stations in the interior can be sparse, so fill up before heading inland. Rest areas with motorhome service points are found along the SS131 and near larger towns.
Ottimo camper, semplice da guidare. Esperienza positiva
Beyond happy with the whole experience. The motorhome was very comfy and had everything we needed for our little girls camping trip. More importantly the owners were extremely friendly and beyond helpful at all times with the vehicle, the routes, the airport pickups and dropp offs and many many more things! All and all very happy with this experience!
The experience was seemles from start to finish. Handover was very straightforward with all the major information required exchanged. Fabian the owner remained available during the trip for any issues that may arise. The vehicle was as advertised and in very good condition. Very nice camping caravan, equipped with everything that you could need. The return process was straightforward when returning vehicle. Also my car was kept securley stored at the location for arrival and drop off. Overall very good experience and i would highly recommend and use again in the future.
We really enjoyed our travels around Brittany in Clarisse's camper van. It was comfortable and easy to drive and had everything we needed for our holiday. Clarisse explained everything clearly to us before we set off.
A really positive experience from start to finish.
