Why choose Cagliari for your road trip

Cagliari — a city worth exploring

Cagliari's Bastion of Saint Remy, built between 1896 and 1902, rises above the historic Castello quarter and offers sweeping views across the Gulf of Angels. As the capital of Sardinia, Cagliari blends ancient Punic and Roman heritage with a lively Mediterranean atmosphere. You can explore the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari, home to one of Italy's finest collections of Nuragic bronzes, before wandering through the Orto Botanico dell'Università di Cagliari, a peaceful garden with over 2,000 plant species. The Poetto Beach stretches for nearly eight kilometres along the city's eastern edge, making it easy to combine culture with coast. Pula and the archaeological site of Nora sit just 33 km to the south-west, while the mountain town of Villacidro is roughly 55 km to the north-west, giving you quick access to Sardinia's rugged interior. Cagliari's roads are generally well suited to larger vehicles, though the narrow lanes of the Castello district are best explored on foot. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in Cagliari, which means flexible pick-up points and genuine tips on where to park, eat, and swim. It is a practical, peer-to-peer way to set off on a Sardinian adventure from a city that rewards curiosity at every turn.

Best time to visit

Cagliari enjoys a long season of warm, sunny weather that suits campervan travel from April through to October. The Festa di Sant'Efisio, one of Sardinia's most spectacular processions, takes place on 1 May and fills Cagliari with traditional costumes, music, and colour. In September, the city hosts the Cagliari Jazz Festival, a relaxed event perfect for evening entertainment after a day on the road. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your motorhome early through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer prices and a wider choice of vehicles. Spring and autumn bring comfortable driving temperatures and quieter campsites along the coast.

Where to park your motorhome

Cagliari has several large car parks that can accommodate campervans and motorhomes, though the narrow streets of the Castello quarter are best avoided in bigger vehicles. Overnight parking in public areas is generally permitted unless signs state otherwise, but always check local signage. The city centre operates a ZTL (limited traffic zone), so plan your route to stay outside restricted areas and use peripheral car parks instead.

  • Piazza dei Centomila Car Park, 1km south — A large open-air car park near Poetto Beach with space for bigger vehicles. Convenient for beach days and well connected to the city centre by bus.
  • Via Roma Car Park, Adjacent to the city — Central parking area close to the harbour and Via Roma promenade. Spaces can be tight for larger motorhomes, so arrive early for the best spots.
  • Terramaini Car Park, 3km north — A spacious car park near the Terramaini park, suitable for campervans and motorhomes. Easy access to the city centre via public transport.

The hire experience was excellent throughout. The owners were very friendly, accommodating and easy to deal with. We had such a good trip. The van is really well looked after and a pleasure to drive. The owners helped with anything we were unsure of and even gave us tips on where to eat and park up. We would definitely hire through these owners again.

We hired Trina for 5 nights earlier this July. My girlfriend and I had a fantastic time on the island. Jandro was incredibly helpful, always on hand before and during the trip to answer any questions which really helped us navigate the island and enjoy our trip. The vehicle was fantastic, an incredible experience to drive. All the amenities were brilliant as well. I would highly recommend using Jandro and one of his vans for a fantastic Mallorca experience!

Communication with the owner was great, van was immaculate, heaps of choice, love the peer to peer concept. Easy to add an extra driver and ID checks were very thorough but straightforward. Changing dates wasn't so easy, the owner was great, but the process at the back end took some manual effort. Teething problems, not a big deal. Main area that needs improving (for me anyway) is the deposit. There was a single line in a table stating Deposit: cash or transfer, that I hadn't seen. The owner asked for the cash or a transfer when we were at the car, which he explained was normal process, but Yescapa could have explained beforehand. I transferred €2000 directly to the owner, which didn't feel comfortable. I had expected this would all be done via Yescapa. I ended up losing €45 in exchange rate variations + fees as well, the owner's bank had challenges which meant it to 5 days to get a lot of cash back. It was lucky we had that amount at hand. I would use Yescapa again. I hope they can tidy up and improve the processes though.

Incredible time spent across the south of France with an incredible van! From beach, lakes, mountains and fields, it got me places I didn’t even pre conceive. Can’t speak more highly of my over all experience from van collection at train station to drop off. Drives smoother than my Suzuki jimny and can confirm very 6ft 4 friendly.

We had an amazing experience hiring Eli's campervan! It was perfect for our family of four – myself, my partner, and our two young daughters. The van was spotless, comfortable, and had everything we needed for our trip. It was easy to drive, well-equipped, and made exploring the malaga so much more enjoyable. The owners were friendly, helpful, and made the whole rental process smooth from start to finish. We made some unforgettable family memories and wouldn't hesitate to rent this campervan again. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a fun, comfortable, and hassle-free adventure in Spain. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
