Cagliari's Bastion of Saint Remy, built between 1896 and 1902, rises above the historic Castello quarter and offers sweeping views across the Gulf of Angels. As the capital of Sardinia, Cagliari blends ancient Punic and Roman heritage with a lively Mediterranean atmosphere. You can explore the Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Cagliari, home to one of Italy's finest collections of Nuragic bronzes, before wandering through the Orto Botanico dell'Università di Cagliari, a peaceful garden with over 2,000 plant species. The Poetto Beach stretches for nearly eight kilometres along the city's eastern edge, making it easy to combine culture with coast. Pula and the archaeological site of Nora sit just 33 km to the south-west, while the mountain town of Villacidro is roughly 55 km to the north-west, giving you quick access to Sardinia's rugged interior. Cagliari's roads are generally well suited to larger vehicles, though the narrow lanes of the Castello district are best explored on foot. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in Cagliari, which means flexible pick-up points and genuine tips on where to park, eat, and swim. It is a practical, peer-to-peer way to set off on a Sardinian adventure from a city that rewards curiosity at every turn.
Cagliari enjoys a long season of warm, sunny weather that suits campervan travel from April through to October. The Festa di Sant'Efisio, one of Sardinia's most spectacular processions, takes place on 1 May and fills Cagliari with traditional costumes, music, and colour. In September, the city hosts the Cagliari Jazz Festival, a relaxed event perfect for evening entertainment after a day on the road. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your motorhome early through Yescapa gives you access to competitive peer-to-peer prices and a wider choice of vehicles. Spring and autumn bring comfortable driving temperatures and quieter campsites along the coast.
Cagliari is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 33 km south-west from Cagliari to Pula, where the ancient ruins of Nora sit on a dramatic peninsula. Explore the Roman mosaics and amphitheatre, then cool off at Santa Margherita di Pula beach. Several campsites nearby offer pitches with sea views, ideal for an easy one- to three-day campervan escape.
Drive 130 km north-west from Cagliari through rolling farmland to Oristano, gateway to the Sinis Peninsula. Visit the Tharros archaeological site and the white quartz beach of Is Arutas. Allow three to six days to enjoy the lagoons of Cabras, famous for their mullet roe, and find motorhome-friendly parking near the coast.
This 190 km route north-east from Cagliari leads to Cala Gonone on the Gulf of Orosei. Take a boat trip to Cala Luna beach and hike the Codula di Luna gorge. The winding SS125 road rewards patient drivers with mountain scenery, and campervan pitches in Cala Gonone fill up quickly in summer, so plan ahead.
Cover 270 km north from Cagliari to reach Alghero, a Catalan-influenced coastal town. Wander the cobbled old town, then visit Neptune's Grotto by boat or down the Escala del Cabirol staircase. Allow five to eight days and stop at Bosa along the way, where colourful houses line the Temo river and motorhome parking is easy to find.
Travel 310 km north-east from Cagliari to Olbia, your gateway to the Costa Smeralda. Explore Porto Cervo's marina and the beaches of Capriccioli and Liscia Ruja. This five- to eight-day campervan trip lets you combine glamorous coastline with the quieter bays of San Teodoro, where parking areas welcome larger vehicles.
Just 50 km east of Cagliari, Villasimius offers turquoise waters at Spiaggia di Simius and the protected marine area of Capo Carbonara. Spend one to four days snorkelling, kayaking, and exploring the old Spanish watchtower. Designated parking areas near the beaches accommodate campervans, making this a straightforward short trip.

The area around Cagliari offers a fine selection of seaside campsites, many set among pine groves just steps from sandy beaches. Most sites provide full hook-ups, modern shower and toilet blocks, and spacious pitches suitable for both campervans and motorhomes. Whether you prefer a spot right on the coast at Poetto or a quieter base further along the southern shoreline near Pula, you will find facilities that make Cagliari an excellent starting point for exploring Sardinia.
Cagliari has several large car parks that can accommodate campervans and motorhomes, though the narrow streets of the Castello quarter are best avoided in bigger vehicles. Overnight parking in public areas is generally permitted unless signs state otherwise, but always check local signage. The city centre operates a ZTL (limited traffic zone), so plan your route to stay outside restricted areas and use peripheral car parks instead.
Amazing renters, with the biggest pleasure again )
Me and my brother were very impressed with the campervan. It had everything you needed and more. A very high spec van kept in immaculate condition. The hosts were also very impressive and helpful catering for our every need. We would 100% recommend this van and will be using again next time in Gran Canaria. A very positive experience!
Giuseppe was brilliant from start to finish, despite our language barrier, we coped really well. And gave a extensive and detailed tour around the van and explained clearly how everything worked. Van was brilliant and gave us freedom of touring Sardinia a breeze. The van is packed with all the essentials for the journey. Very glad we decided to choose this. Would highly recommend Giuseppe to anyone.
Great experience, very good communication especially as im a novice motor homer.
We had a fantastic experience hiring this campervan! It was very clean, well maintained and exactly as pictured. Alberto, the owner, was incredibly friendly and helpful, and was always happy to answer any questions we had. The campervan was perfect for the three people travelling in our party and had everything we needed for a comfortable trip. The heating, hot water and electricity all worked perfectly, and having a cooker and fridge meant we could easily prepare meals and store food. We would highly recommend this campervan to anyone looking for a trip away, and wouldn’t hesitate to hire it again. Thank you Alberto!
Thank you, Jesús María, for one of our best travel experiences! Great communication before our arrival and warm welcome in Málaga were the perfect start to the trip. The van was fully equipped, and we had an amazing time exploring beautiful Andalusia. It was hard to say goodbye to our little home on wheels, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to take it on another adventure someday! Highly recommended! 🚐⭐️
