Flexibility, competitive prices and insurance included.
The campervan is the ultimate all-rounder. Effortlessly practical and built for freedom, it’s just as at home navigating tight city streets as it is exploring the heart of the countryside.
The Azores archipelago stretches across 600 km of the mid-Atlantic, comprising nine volcanic islands where crater lakes glow an almost unreal shade of emerald green. From the twin lagoons of Sete Cidades on São Miguel to the towering peak of Mount Pico — Portugal's highest point at 2,351 metres — every island offers a distinct landscape shaped by centuries of volcanic activity. The drive from Ponta Delgada to Furnas on São Miguel covers roughly 40 km and takes you past tea plantations, hot springs and lush botanical gardens, while the 30 km route from Angra do Heroísmo to Biscoitos on Terceira winds through UNESCO-listed streets and natural rock pools. Coastal roads hug dramatic cliffs, and interior routes climb through rolling pastures dotted with hydrangeas, making the Azores a genuinely rewarding destination for slow, exploratory travel. Compact island roads suit campervans perfectly, and even a motorhome can navigate most routes with ease, though some narrower stretches on smaller islands like Flores or Corvo call for a bit of extra care. Whether you want to whale-watch off Faial, soak in geothermal pools on São Miguel or hike the caldera on Terceira, you can plan your own pace. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across the Azores, choosing from a range of vehicles that match your group size and island-hopping ambitions — a flexible, peer-to-peer way to discover these remarkable Atlantic islands.
The Azores enjoy a mild oceanic climate year-round, making campervan travel comfortable in every season. May to September brings the driest weather and warmest sea temperatures, ideal for whale-watching excursions and coastal hikes. June hosts the Sanjoaninas festival in Angra do Heroísmo, with parades, bullfights and live music across Terceira. October's Walkers Festival on São Jorge draws hikers to the island's famous fajãs. Book early for July and August — these are the most popular months, and Yescapa's peer-to-peer model often means better value than traditional hire companies. Spring and autumn reward you with quieter roads and blooming hydrangeas.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travelers.
This 120 km loop on São Miguel links the twin crater lakes of Sete Cidades, the hot springs of Furnas and the tea plantations at Gorreana. Allow 3–6 days to soak in geothermal pools and savour a cozido stew cooked underground. Campervan-friendly roads throughout.
Circle Terceira's 80 km coastline, starting in UNESCO-listed Angra do Heroísmo and passing the natural lava pools at Biscoitos and the Algar do Carvão lava tube. Three to five days let you explore at a relaxed pace. Compact campervans handle the narrow interior tracks best.
Hop between three Azores islands over 200 km, from the Capelinhos volcano on Faial to the vineyards of Pico and the fajã trails of São Jorge. Five to eight days give you time for whale-watching and summit hikes. Short inter-island ferries connect each leg.
Traverse 350 km of São Miguel's full length, from the Nordeste lighthouse in the east to the Mosteiros cliffs in the west. Five to eight days let you visit Lagoa do Fogo, Ribeira Grande's surf beaches and Ponta Delgada's marina. A motorhome offers extra comfort for this longer route.
Cover roughly 450 km across Faial, Pico, São Jorge and Graciosa over 7–11 days. Highlights include Horta's marina murals, Pico's UNESCO vineyard landscape and the thermal baths at Carapacho on Graciosa. Ferry schedules are regular in summer, so plan crossings in advance.
The ultimate Azores adventure spans around 600 km and 10–15 days, linking every island from Santa Maria in the east to Corvo in the west. You will need a mix of ferries and short flights. Each island has its own character — from the rose-coloured rooftops of Flores to the caldeira of Graciosa.

Campsites across the Azores are spread over several islands, giving you the freedom to base yourself on one island or hop between a few. Most sites offer level pitches with electrical hook-ups suitable for both campervans and motorhomes, along with shared toilet and shower blocks. Coastal sites let you wake up to ocean views, while inland options sit closer to volcanic hot springs and crater lakes. Facilities vary from basic to well-equipped, so check ahead if you need waste disposal or laundry services.
The Azores have no motorways or toll roads, so you can explore freely without worrying about toll charges. Island roads are generally well-maintained two-lane routes, though some mountain and coastal stretches can be narrow and winding. The speed limit on main roads is typically 90 km/h, dropping to 50 km/h in built-up areas — if you are driving a larger motorhome, take extra care on tighter bends, especially on smaller islands like Flores and Corvo. Fuel stations are available in most towns on the larger islands, but it is wise to fill up before heading into more remote areas. Road signage follows standard Portuguese conventions.
Excellent guests! Everything went smoothly from start to finish. They took great care of the van, communication was easy, and they returned it on time. We highly recommend them to other hosts and would be happy to welcome them again anytime!

We love Pedro and his Flower Power Spaceship <3 from start to finish the experience was fantastic. When we collected the van from Pedro he took time to explain everything about it and passionately and then when we hit the road we fell more and more in love with it ----- it has everything we needed ! Super clean, super cool. "small country, small van" . . . . Pedro: kindest man with steeziest heart <3 obrigada X X X X
We rented the van for almost 3 weeks and we had a lovely time exploring Spain. The van has everything we needed and working properly. It’s spacious and comfortable for two to sleep. We were a bit worried about the heatwave the country was having and Jeremie managed to buy a double fan for us to sleep, which we highly appreciated. He is very friendly and good with communicating. The van runs smoothly, we just had a message on the screen to top up the oil (which was easy enough to stop at the petrol station and buy one - with Jeremie instructions we were able to do it). We really recommend renting his van for your adventure. ☺️
It was a genuine pleasure travelling in Álvaro’s campervan. Not only was it well maintained and fully equipped, but Álvaro also proved to be an exceptional host—friendly, responsive, and always willing to help. His support played a key role in ensuring that the trip went as smoothly as possible. I would recommend him without hesitation and sincerely hope to have the opportunity to repeat the experience. Thank you very much for everything!
