Venice is built across 118 small islands connected by over 400 bridges, making it one of the most architecturally extraordinary cities in Europe. The Basilica di San Marco, with its five domes and golden mosaics dating back to the 11th century, anchors the famous Piazza San Marco at the heart of the city. From there, you can wander to the Ponte di Rialto, the oldest bridge spanning the Grand Canal, or take a vaporetto to the island of Murano, renowned for its centuries-old glassblowing tradition. The Gallerie dell'Accademia houses one of Italy's finest collections of pre-19th-century art, including masterpieces by Titian and Tintoretto. Padua lies just 37 km to the west, while the sandy beaches of Lido di Jesolo are roughly 45 km to the north-east, giving you plenty of scope for day trips. Because Venice itself is car-free, the mainland towns of Mestre and Marghera serve as your base for parking and overnight stays in a campervan or motorhome. This setup actually works in your favour — with Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from a local owner based on the mainland, settle in at a nearby campsite, and reach Venice by bus or boat in under 20 minutes. It is a practical, relaxed way to explore the lagoon city without the stress of navigating narrow streets.
Venice is wonderful from April through October, when long days let you explore the lagoon at a leisurely pace. The Festa del Redentore in July lights up the sky with fireworks over the Giudecca Canal, while the Venice Film Festival brings international buzz to the Lido every September. Spring and early autumn are ideal for campervan travel, with comfortable temperatures and good availability at mainland campsites. Book your Yescapa hire early for summer, the most popular season, and enjoy peer-to-peer prices that are often kinder to your budget than traditional rental agencies.
Venice is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 37 km west from Venice to Padua, a university city brimming with history. Visit the Scrovegni Chapel with its Giotto frescoes and stroll through Prato della Valle, one of Europe's largest squares. Campervan parking is available near the old town, making a one- to three-day stop easy to organise.
Just 30 km north of Venice, Treviso is a charming walled town criss-crossed by canals. Explore the Piazza dei Signori and the frescoed Chiesa di San Nicolò. The surrounding Prosecco hills are a short drive away, and motorhome-friendly parking areas sit close to the centre.
Drive 120 km north-west from Venice to Verona, home to the Roman Arena and Juliet's House on Via Cappello. Stop at Soave along the way to see its medieval castle and taste local wines. Allow three to six days to enjoy the route, with well-equipped campsites dotted around Lake Garda nearby.
Travel 160 km north-east from Venice along the Adriatic coast to reach Trieste, where Habsburg grandeur meets Italian flair. Visit the hilltop Castello di Miramare and the Piazza Unità d'Italia. Campervan-friendly aires and campsites line the coast, so three to six days lets you savour the journey.
Head 250 km south from Venice through the Emilia-Romagna coastline. Ravenna dazzles with UNESCO-listed Byzantine mosaics at the Basilica di San Vitale, while Rimini offers broad sandy beaches. Plan five to eight days and use the well-serviced campsites along the Adriatic shore.
A 280 km drive north from Venice brings you into the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage mountain range. Stop at Cortina d'Ampezzo for hiking and visit Lago di Braies for its turquoise waters. Allow five to eight days; motorhome pitches fill up in summer, so book ahead.

The Venice mainland and surrounding lagoon coast offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Most sites provide full electrical hook-ups, modern shower and toilet blocks, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Several are located in Cavallino-Treporti, a popular seaside strip just across the lagoon, while others sit closer to Mestre and Marghera for quick access to Venice by public transport.
Venice is a car-free city, so you need to park on the mainland or at the edge of the historic centre. Piazzale Roma and Tronchetto are the closest vehicle-accessible points, connected to the islands by vaporetto and People Mover. Overnight parking in a motorhome is not permitted in most city car parks, so plan to use a campsite or designated motorhome area for longer stays. Always check height restrictions before entering multi-storey facilities.
I had the most wonderful trip in Eve’s van. It has everything you need, a great sized fridge, a large comfy bed, cooking equipment, electrics to be off grid, a great shower & toilet. The van ran very smoothly and was a perfect size even driving through the towns was no problem at all. They were very accommodating, helping me with local tip and recommendations. I’d 100% recommend this van to anyone thinking of taking a road trip, you won’t regret it :)
Inigio and his lovely girlfriend looked after Dolly for one week here in the Algarve area. They brought her back clean and in really good shape. Before and during the rental period we had a very good dialogue. I can highly reccomend them to lend your car. :-)
Our trip was fantastic, couldn't recommend travelling Sicily via Camper further. Angela and Luca made that super easy with clear comms and help pre booking, during holiday and after. pick up and drop off was a breeze. Clear instructions on how to use the van. All in all great trip.
Fabio made the whole process super easy and was very flexible with our plans. The van was perfect. Practically brand new and had all we needed.
Fantastic experience. Raul really went above and beyond to help us out and was always responsive with any queries we had. The van was in excellent condition, had everything we needed, and was ideal for our trip into the Pyrenees, plus heading south for the solar eclipse. Would highly recommend.
