Uppsala's cathedral, the largest in Scandinavia, took over 150 years to build and stands 118.7 metres tall, dominating the skyline of this historic university city. Situated on the Fyris River in east-central Sweden, Uppsala blends centuries of academic heritage with green parkland and a lively cultural scene. You can wander through the Linnaeus Garden, founded in 1655 and one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world, before heading to the Gustavianum museum to see its remarkable 17th-century anatomical theatre. The Uppsala Castle, perched on a ridge above the city, offers panoramic views and houses the Uppsala Art Museum. For a deeper dive into the region's Viking past, drive 5 km north to Gamla Uppsala, where three great royal burial mounds date back to the 5th and 6th centuries. Stockholm lies just 71 km to the south, making it easy to combine a city break with a longer road trip, while the charming medieval town of Sigtuna is only 37 km south-west. The flat terrain and well-maintained roads around Uppsala suit all vehicle sizes, so whether you are in a compact campervan or a larger motorhome, getting around is straightforward. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across the region, which means you can pick up your campervan close to where your adventure begins and benefit from personal tips on the best routes and overnight spots.
Uppsala is wonderful from late spring through early autumn. The Walpurgis Night celebrations on 30 April fill the city with bonfires, choral singing and student revelry — a uniquely Uppsala tradition worth planning around. Summer brings the Kulturnatten festival in September, when museums, galleries and stages open late across the city. June to August offers long daylight hours ideal for campervan touring, and campsites in the region are fully open with all facilities running. Book your Yescapa hire early for July, the most popular month. Shoulder months like May and September reward you with quieter roads and competitive peer-to-peer pricing through Yescapa.
