Strasbourg's Grande Île, the historic city centre encircled by the River Ill, became the first entire urban district to be classified a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1988. From the towering Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Strasbourg, whose astronomical clock draws crowds daily at half past noon, to the pastel half-timbered houses of Petite France, the city rewards slow exploration on foot and on water. The Musée d'Art Moderne et Contemporain showcases works from Monet to Buren along the waterfront, while the Parc de l'Orangerie — the oldest park in the city — offers green space and a small zoo ideal for families. Strasbourg also serves as the official seat of the European Parliament, lending it a distinctly international atmosphere. Colmar lies just 75 km to the south along the Alsace Wine Route, and the Black Forest town of Baden-Baden is only 55 km to the north-east across the German border, making Strasbourg a superb base for cross-border touring. The flat terrain of the Rhine plain and well-maintained roads through the surrounding vineyards suit larger vehicles comfortably. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in and around Strasbourg, which means flexible pick-up points, personal tips on the best routes through Alsace, and competitive pricing compared with traditional hire depots. Whether you are tracing the wine route south or heading into Germany for the day, a campervan trip from Strasbourg puts two countries within easy reach.
Strasbourg is wonderful year-round, with each season offering something special. The famous Christkindelsmärik, one of Europe's oldest Christmas markets, fills the city centre from late November through December and is a magical experience from a cosy campervan base. Summer brings the Festival de Musique de Strasbourg in June, plus long daylight hours for exploring the Alsace Wine Route. Spring and autumn are ideal for quieter campsite availability and gentle driving weather. Book your Yescapa motorhome early for the Christmas market period, as it is the most popular season. Peer-to-peer hire through Yescapa often means better value than traditional depots in Strasbourg.
Strasbourg is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 75 km south from Strasbourg along the celebrated Alsace Wine Route. Stop in Obernai for its medieval market square and Ribeauvillé for castle ruins and Riesling tastings. Colmar's Unterlinden Museum and Little Venice canals are the perfect finale. Campervan-friendly aires dot the route.
Cross into Germany on this 55 km north-east jaunt from Strasbourg. Pause at the Europabrücke border crossing, then explore Baden-Baden's Friedrichsbad thermal baths and the Lichtentaler Allee park. Motorhome parking is available near the Festspielhaus concert hall.
This 140 km south-west route from Strasbourg links three distinct cities. Visit the Cité de l'Automobile in Mulhouse, then continue to Basel for the Kunstmuseum and Rhine-side promenades. Campervan pitches are plentiful around Mulhouse, and Swiss vignettes are needed for Basel motorways.
Drive 160 km west from Strasbourg through the rolling Lorraine countryside. Nancy's Place Stanislas, a UNESCO-listed square, is unmissable, and Metz's Centre Pompidou-Metz offers world-class modern art. Motorhome service areas are well signed along the A4 autoroute between both cities.
Cover 220 km north-west from Strasbourg through the Moselle valley. Explore Luxembourg City's Bock Casemates, then follow the river to Trier to see the Porta Nigra and Roman amphitheatre. Campervan stopovers along the Moselle offer riverside pitches with vineyard views.
This 300 km southern route from Strasbourg crosses into Switzerland via the Jura mountains. Stop at Delémont for its old town and the Creux du Van natural amphitheatre before reaching Bern's Zytglogge clock tower and Bear Park. Plan for Swiss motorway tolls and mountain-ready driving.

Strasbourg and the surrounding Alsace countryside offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. In the city itself you will find sites with full hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated pitches for larger vehicles. Further afield, sites near Colmar and along the wine route provide a quieter countryside setting with similar facilities. Most Strasbourg-area campsites are open from spring through to autumn, with some welcoming guests year-round for the Christmas market season.
Strasbourg operates a strong park-and-ride (P+R) network that welcomes larger vehicles, making it easy to leave your campervan or motorhome on the outskirts and hop on a tram into the centre. Overnight parking in the city centre is restricted for vehicles over 1.9 m in height, so using a P+R site or a dedicated motorhome aire is the most practical option. Always check signage for height barriers before entering any car park.
We had an amazing trip! Rafaela and Carina were so kind, and we couldn’t recommend their van enough 🤩🙏🏼 The van had everything we needed for a proper “van life” experience, and you can also stay at campsites whenever you want!
We hired a motorhome from Cemil for a week to travel around Switzerland. We also visited France, Germany and Liechtenstein. Before the trip Cemil was helpful and responded to questions promptly. On the day of pick up he met us at the train station and the handover was smooth and quick. At the end if the trip it was also a very smooth transition and Cemil kindly drove us back to the airport. The van was great - very easy to drive and everything worked perfectly. All tolls and insurance were covered. We were very happy with the motorhome and would highly recommend renting from Cemil.
We had a great experience hiring this motorhome. Everything went smoothly and we had absolutely zero issues throughout our trip. Fernando kept us informed about everything from the beginning and was very friendly and helpful. He was also very flexible with both the pickup and drop-off times, which made everything much easier. The location is perfect, especially if you're arriving via Prague Airport. We travelled all the way to Hungary and back to Poland, staying at several off-grid locations along the way. We had an amazing time at Lake Balaton in Hungary and also loved our stay at the Pod Opaleńcem campsite in Świeradów-Zdrój, Poland. We would definitely recommend this motorhome hire and would happily rent from Fernando again!
Had a great time renting Dario's van. The pick-up was smooth and we were off and driving very quickly. Would highly recommend!
We went for a 7 days trip with 2 of my friends. It was an amazing time. Camper was really great - in a good condition, clean, comfortable. We did 1000km without any problems. I can recommend this car and Alvaro as a very nice owner.
