South Holland is home to the Kinderdijk windmill complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring 19 iconic windmills built around 1740 to manage water levels in the Alblasserwaard polder. This Dutch province packs an extraordinary amount into a compact area — from the political heart of The Hague to the maritime energy of Rotterdam, Europe's largest port. The distance from Leiden to Dordrecht is roughly 60 km, while The Hague to Gouda covers about 30 km, making South Holland wonderfully manageable for a road trip. You can wake up beside the dunes of Wassenaar, spend the afternoon exploring the Mauritshuis gallery in The Hague, and park up for the evening near the cube houses of Rotterdam. The Westland greenhouse region, the historic canals of Delft, and the cheese markets of Gouda each add their own character to a province that rewards slow, curious travel. Flat terrain and well-maintained roads make South Holland ideal for both campervans and larger motorhomes, with no mountain passes or narrow lanes to worry about. Coastal stretches along Scheveningen and Hoek van Holland offer seaside overnight spots, while inland routes wind through polders and along rivers. With Yescapa, you can hire a campervan directly from local owners across South Holland, choosing from a range of vehicles that suit your group size and travel style. It is a peer-to-peer approach that keeps things personal and often more affordable than traditional hire.
South Holland is at its most colourful from mid-April to mid-May, when the Keukenhof gardens near Lisse burst into bloom and King's Day on 27 April fills The Hague and Leiden with orange-clad celebrations. Summer, from June to August, brings the best conditions for coastal stops at Scheveningen and Hoek van Holland, with long daylight hours for exploring. Campsites across South Holland are open year-round in many cases, though booking ahead for July and August is wise. Shoulder months like September and October offer quieter roads and mild temperatures. With Yescapa, peer-to-peer pricing often means you can find a campervan or motorhome hire at competitive rates outside peak season.
To help you plan your trip, we have selected six unmissable road trips, suitable for all travellers.

South Holland offers a good spread of campsites, from coastal parks near Scheveningen and Hoek van Holland to quieter inland spots along rivers and polders. Most sites provide electric hook-ups, modern shower blocks, and dedicated motorhome service points for waste disposal and fresh water. Whether you are travelling in a compact campervan or a larger motorhome, you will find pitches suited to your vehicle across the province.
Motorways in South Holland are toll-free, so you can travel freely without vignettes or road charges. The A4, A12, and A13 connect The Hague, Rotterdam, and Delft efficiently, though rush-hour congestion around Rotterdam can slow things down — plan departures outside peak commuting times. Speed limits for motorhomes over 3,500 kg are 80 km/h on most roads and 90 km/h on motorways, lower than the standard car limit. Rest areas with facilities are well spaced along major routes. Watch for height restrictions in urban tunnels, particularly the Maastunnel in Rotterdam, which has a 2.55 m clearance on the car deck.
Thank you, Jesús María, for one of our best travel experiences! Great communication before our arrival and warm welcome in Málaga were the perfect start to the trip. The van was fully equipped, and we had an amazing time exploring beautiful Andalusia. It was hard to say goodbye to our little home on wheels, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to take it on another adventure someday! Highly recommended! 🚐⭐️
Zeben was the most amazing and helpful host, always there if needed. The van has the perfect setup and it’s the best way to spend time on the island. Could not recommend more!
Great host,great camper
We had a great trip and a good overall experience with Marco’s campervan. Communication with the owner was very swiftly, both before and during the rental. Campervan also met our standards and was in line with description. We were on the road for 9 days. It was our first experience driving and being on the road with a campervan and we did not experience any issues at all. The van itself was in good condition, and Marco was very available for any questions. Would definitely recommend!
The hire from Franck was perfect for our holiday in the Alsace. It was modern and spacious and very practical. The hiring experience was very easy and Franck was a great host. He assisted us with all our questions and always responded promptly. We would not hesitate in recommending this motorhome for future trips.
Everything like on description and good communication with the owner. We had a lovely time! Thank you :))
