Why hire a campervan or motorhome in Quebec

Quebec — a region worth exploring

Quebec's Route Verte stretches over 5,300 kilometres, making it one of the longest cycling networks in North America — but it also traces some of the finest campervan routes on the continent. From the cobblestone streets of Old Québec City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to the towering fjord of the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park, this province rewards those who travel at their own pace. Montréal to Québec City is roughly 250 km along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River, while Québec City to Percé at the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula covers around 700 km of increasingly dramatic coastal scenery. Along the way you can stop at Montmorency Falls, which at 83 metres is actually taller than Niagara Falls, or detour north to the vast wilderness of Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier. Quebec's road network is well maintained and suited to both compact campervans and larger motorhomes, with plenty of service stations and rest areas even in more remote areas. The province's mix of French-speaking culture, boreal forest, and maritime landscapes gives every trip a character all its own. Through Yescapa, you can hire directly from local owners across Quebec, choosing from a wide range of campervans and motorhomes that suit your group size, budget, and route — a peer-to-peer approach that keeps costs fair and puts genuine local knowledge at your fingertips.

Best time to visit

June to September is the prime window for a campervan trip through Quebec, when campgrounds are fully open and daytime temperatures sit comfortably between 20 °C and 28 °C. The Festival d'été de Québec in July fills Québec City with outdoor concerts, while the Gatineau Hot Air Balloon Festival each September offers a spectacular send-off to summer. Autumn colour peaks from mid-September into October, especially in the Laurentians and Eastern Townships. Booking through Yescapa during the shoulder months of June or September often means better availability and more competitive hire prices from local owners.

What you need to know about roads and motorways in Quebec

Quebec's Autoroutes are toll-free, so you can travel the province without worrying about road charges. The speed limit on autoroutes is generally 100 km/h, though larger motorhomes should watch for posted advisories on steep grades, particularly along the A-20 and A-73. Highway signs are in French, so familiarise yourself with common terms like "sortie" (exit) and "arrêt" (stop). Rest areas — called "haltes routières" — appear regularly on major routes and often include picnic tables, toilets, and tourist information. Winter tyres are legally required from 1 December to 15 March for all vehicles, including campervans and motorhomes.

Thank you, Jesús María, for one of our best travel experiences! Great communication before our arrival and warm welcome in Málaga were the perfect start to the trip. The van was fully equipped, and we had an amazing time exploring beautiful Andalusia. It was hard to say goodbye to our little home on wheels, but hopefully we’ll get the chance to take it on another adventure someday! Highly recommended! 🚐⭐️

We had a great trip and a good overall experience with Marco’s campervan. Communication with the owner was very swiftly, both before and during the rental. Campervan also met our standards and was in line with description. We were on the road for 9 days. It was our first experience driving and being on the road with a campervan and we did not experience any issues at all. The van itself was in good condition, and Marco was very available for any questions. Would definitely recommend!

The hire from Franck was perfect for our holiday in the Alsace. It was modern and spacious and very practical. The hiring experience was very easy and Franck was a great host. He assisted us with all our questions and always responded promptly. We would not hesitate in recommending this motorhome for future trips.
