Why choose Paris for your road trip

Paris — a city worth exploring

Paris sits on a sweeping loop of the River Seine, with over 130 museums and monuments packed into just 105 square kilometres — making it one of the most culturally dense capitals in Europe. From the iron lattice of the Eiffel Tower, completed in 1889 for the Exposition Universelle, to the vast galleries of the Musée d'Orsay housed in a former railway station, every arrondissement offers something worth discovering. Stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg, explore the medieval architecture of Notre-Dame Cathedral, or spend a morning wandering the stalls at the Marché d'Aligre in the 12th arrondissement. Chartres and its famous cathedral lie just 90 km to the south-west, while the palace town of Fontainebleau is roughly 70 km to the south-east — both make for rewarding day trips by campervan. The city's ring road, the Boulevard Périphérique, can be busy, but once you head beyond it the Île-de-France countryside opens up with well-maintained roads ideal for motorhome travel. With Yescapa, you hire directly from local owners across the Paris region, which means flexible pick-up points, personal tips on the best routes out of the city, and competitive pricing compared with traditional hire depots. Whether you are planning a longer tour of northern France or a weekend escape to the Loire, Paris is a brilliant starting point for your next campervan adventure.

Best time to visit

Paris is wonderful in every season. Late spring and early autumn bring comfortable driving weather and plenty of availability at nearby campsites. The Fête de la Musique on 21 June fills the streets with free concerts, while the Nuit Blanche arts festival in early October transforms the city after dark. Summer is the busiest period, so booking your campervan through Yescapa early lets you lock in competitive peer-to-peer prices. Winter brings festive Christmas markets along the Champs-Élysées and quieter roads for motorhome touring around the Île-de-France region.

Where to park your motorhome

Parking a larger vehicle in central Paris requires some planning. Most inner-city car parks have a height limit of around 1.90 m, which rules out motorhomes and many campervans. Park-and-ride (Parc Relais) facilities on the outskirts connect directly to the metro and often accommodate taller vehicles. Overnight parking on public roads is generally permitted unless signposted otherwise, but always check local restrictions before settling in.

  • Parc Relais Pont de Sèvres, 9km southwest — Large park-and-ride next to Pont de Sèvres metro station (Line 9). Accepts vehicles up to 2.40 m high and offers direct access to central Paris.
  • Parc Relais Créteil – Pointe du Lac, 14km southeast — Situated at the end of metro Line 8, this facility has generous bay sizes and is a practical option for larger vehicles visiting south-east Paris.
  • Parking Indigo Porte Maillot, 5km west — Located near the Palais des Congrès with access to metro Line 1 and RER C. Check height restrictions before arrival as limits vary by level.

Great experience renting the Jimny. The owners were brilliant to deal with from start to finish, and the Jeep was in excellent condition. It was perfect for exploring the Algarve. Would definitely recommend and would happily rent from them again!

Clean, well-maintained vehicle that gave us so many great memories! We traveled to many places and drove around 900 km ourselves, and it handled everything flawlessly. Thanks to its size, parking was super easy, we could fit anywhere, and we were able to sleep in spots where a different kind of campervan wouldn't have worked. It is fully equipped with everything provided, even extra games for beach days! The bed and bedding were clean, and it has a really comfortable mattress. The owners were super nice and sweet. Everything went smoothly during both pickup and drop-off, and they were always there to help whenever we needed it, even when we got a bit lost! 😅 Plus point that they were super cool and easy to talk to. P.S. The AC works like a charm!
