Oslo's Opera House, designed by Snøhetta, features a sloping marble roof you can walk across, rising directly from the waters of Oslofjord. The Norwegian capital blends urban culture with easy access to nature, making it a brilliant base for exploring by road. The Vigeland Sculpture Park displays over 200 bronze and granite works by Gustav Vigeland, while the Munch Museum houses the world's largest collection of Edvard Munch's art, including several versions of The Scream. For history, the Viking Ship Museum on the Bygdøy peninsula showcases remarkably preserved 9th-century vessels. The Holmenkollen Ski Jump, perched above the city, offers panoramic views and a ski simulator. Oslo sits at the head of the 100 km-long Oslofjord, and Drammen is just 40 km to the south-west, giving you a quick route into the forested Buskerud region. Heading north, Eidsvoll — the birthplace of Norway's constitution — is roughly 70 km away along the E6. The roads around Oslo are well-maintained and suited to larger vehicles, though some residential streets in the city centre can be narrow. With Yescapa, you hire your campervan or motorhome directly from local owners in the Oslo area, which means you can collect your vehicle close to where you arrive and set off without delay. It is a practical, peer-to-peer way to begin your Norwegian adventure.
Oslo is wonderful from May to September, when long daylight hours let you make the most of every stop. The Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations on 17 May fill the city with parades and festivities — a memorable time to be in Oslo. In June, the Oslo Jazz Festival draws musicians and fans from across Europe. Summer is the busiest season for campervan travel, so booking your vehicle on Yescapa early gives you the widest choice from local owners at competitive prices. Autumn brings golden foliage to the forests around Oslo, ideal for quieter motorhome trips with fewer crowds on the road.
Oslo is the perfect base for exploring the region by motorhome or campervan. Here are our 6 must-see getaways
Head 50 km south from Oslo along the Oslofjord to the charming coastal town of Drøbak. Stop at the Oscarsborg Fortress on an island in the fjord, then explore Drøbak Aquarium. This short campervan trip suits a weekend, with waterfront parking available near the harbour.
Drive 85 km north-west from Oslo through rolling farmland to Hønefoss, gateway to the Ringerike region. Visit the Kistefos Museum and its striking sculpture bridge, The Twist. Campsites along the Begna river offer hook-ups and peaceful surroundings for your motorhome.
Travel 170 km north from Oslo along the E6 to Lillehammer, host of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Explore the open-air Maihaugen Museum and the Olympic Park. Several well-equipped campsites near Lake Mjøsa welcome campervans and offer electric hook-ups and lake access.
Cover 160 km south-west from Oslo towards the sunny coast of Kristiansand. Stop at Langesund for seafood and visit Kristiansand Zoo and Amusement Park. The E18 is motorhome-friendly, and several coastal campsites between Arendal and Kristiansand offer seaside pitches.
This 300 km route west from Oslo crosses the Hardangervidda plateau, Norway's largest national park. Pause at Geilo for mountain walks and Vøringsfossen waterfall before descending to Bergen. Plan fuel stops carefully on the plateau, and book campervan pitches in Bergen ahead of time.
Drive 520 km north-west from Oslo to the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. Pass through the Gudbrandsdalen valley and stop at Lom Stave Church. The final descent via Ørnevegen (Eagle Road) is spectacular — take it slowly in a motorhome and enjoy designated viewpoints along the way.

Oslo and its surroundings offer a good range of campsites suited to both campervans and motorhomes. Within the city you will find urban sites with full facilities including electric hook-ups, showers, toilets and Wi-Fi. Heading into the surrounding countryside of Akershus, sites become more spacious, often set beside lakes or forests. Most campsites around Oslo are open from May to September, with several operating year-round for winter travellers.
Parking a larger vehicle in central Oslo requires some planning. The city operates a zone-based parking system, and many on-street spaces have height or length restrictions that may not suit motorhomes. Dedicated car parks with higher clearance are your best option. Overnight parking in a campervan on public roads is generally permitted for one night under Norway's right-to-rest rules, but always check local signage. Arrive early in summer to secure a spot near popular areas.
An absolute 10/10 experience from start to finish! The owners were exceptionally professional, super friendly, and made everything from initial contact to booking and collection completely seamless. Meeting their beloved camper van, 'Olaf,' was the highlight of our trip. As first-time drivers of anything larger than an SUV, we were initially nervous, but Olaf completely surprised us—being fully automatic and featuring Android Auto infotainment system, he was an absolute breeze to drive and got us to our destinations hassle-free. The camper is fully equipped with everything you could possibly need for a short getaway, and honestly, you could easily stay much longer. If we ever find ourselves back in France, we would love to take Olaf out for another spin!
This was a great experience. Stefan provided well maintained motorhome and all needed accessories. He picked up at airport and we are super happy with our trip.
We absolutely loved our time in the caddy! Everything was great, from the collection, the functionality and the communication. The van is small but mighty, the owners have thought of every little detail (sink, shower, storage, kitchen, and a good sized comfy bed). We highly recommend using Yescapa and hiring this van- perfect for your dolomites adventure!
We hired the van for 8 nights and it was perfect. Went up to the mountains and down to the beach. It was very spacious and well kitted out. The owners are also lovely, accommodating and quick to reply to our message
Todo genial. La camper estaba nueva, es muy comoda y espaciosa, con todo lo necesario para pasar unos dias inolvidables. El contacto con Lidia y su pareja ha ido muy bien. Totalmente recomendable! Muchas gracias por todo!
